PC vs Console for gaming.

I was really disappointed with the PS3's performance, it is noway a match for our PC's, dirt looks like crap on the consoles anyway, especially the PS3 version with no AF, PS3 drops frames in games like the Simpson's for crying out loud. Like its been said, they are 7800 GTX performance at most and with little or no AA/AF.

The 360 drops frames on the simpsons games as well so whats your point?

Dirt doesn't look like crap on the consoles.

Also Uncharted: drakes fortune looks stunning on the PS3, as does Ratchet and clank.

When games are coded properly for the PS3 (and not just ported lazily from the 360) then there are no performance issues at all.

My PC - For ANY FPS I can get my hands on! Simply said the PC is superior in that arena for controls and graphics! Also RTS cos lets be honest consoles suck at them! Have you ever compared Battle for Middle Earth II on PC to 360? Not only do the controls not work but the graphics are terrible on the 360! Games like GTA I actually play when they are released on the PC since I hate the whole concept of "auto" targeting, terrible just terrible! PLus of course its upgradable etc etc!

My Consoles - Pro Evo on the 360, mates have it on that, we play vs each other on it, might as well! Plus the PC version is a PS2 port! 360 also gives me the chance to play games I dont get to on the PC like Halo etc! Halo 3 was not great at all as it was pretty easy and not mind blowing in the graphics department, much better games out there on the PC!
Looking towards the Wii however it's superb, great fun and a brill laugh! Plus can you really beat games like Zelda and Mario on any other format? Nah ya cant so there's the argument right there to have one! :)

only thing puts me of console gaming is lack of players in a game, i can play any modern pc game with 32 players but on the 360 your limited to 16 players and you have to pay for microsofts live gold package

New pc game = £25
New console game = £50

Enough said.

New Console games can be had a lot cheaper than £50 :)

Consoles better for:

Football:PES
Driving:Forza etc
---

Prey on 360 is excellent and as intuitive as it needs to be. Lost Planet also fantastic on 360 - if you cant learn the controls then :D

My preference for PC would be FPS ...just UT series is excellent and better with a PC.

A new gfx card for me serves the following 1) Dvd playback/encoding 2) Crysis & 3) I need more FPS for the 20 wfp2007 s-ips.

The sensible guy/gal gets a console and 1 decent gfx card. When needed (e.g. when software demands it) you upgrade the gfx card.

I recall there being an online game that PC users and 360 users can play & compete together; this was also on a 'game tv' channel and it was pretty even (console vs keyboard/mouse)

Just get both

There's no right or wrong answer in the console Vs PC debate, they both have their advantages. I do see your point about the money involved in a high end PC compared to a console. I've had a PC for a few years and i think well chosen mid-range compnents are a much better buy than high end. You can have a really good PC for gaming for £500, probably less. I think it's a bit of a waste when someone spends £1400 on a PC mainly for gaming but i suppose everyone has their own budget. I don't own a console but i've had consoles in the past and might consider getting one at some point. For me, the advantages of each are:

Console:

Plug in and play. 2 hours on a console = 2 hours of gaming whereas 2 hours "gaming" on a PC usually turns into about 1 hours broken gaming and 1 hour of adjusting detail settings, overclocking graphics card, change drivers, quick re-run of 3dmark, change 2x aa to 4x aa, change 4x aa back to 2x aa etc.

Ideal if you have mates round to just have a laugh playing. It would be quite easy to take a console with you to a mates etc for some gaming but i'd never dream of taking a PC+monitor somewhere.

PC

Being able to play a game at 60fps with AA on

Mouse + keyboard for FPS games

Upgrades. It's not hard to have a reasonably priced PC now that is better than the xbox360 and PS3 but in 12/18 months time you could simply buy a £100-£150 graphics card that will blow them away. What you going to do with a PS3 then?

Sheesh! OP here again. That caused a bit of debate didn't it? :D

this may be off topic, but i want to know why do you have hd2400 in such a good pc?
get a better graphics card then decide if pc gaming is worse then console gaming.

When I originally built my system, I had no intention of doing any gaming on it - just video editing etc - so I just needed dual output to send one feed to my adjacent TV.

I've now OCed it to a great speed and thought it'd be a shame not to match it with a decent card, so I've taken the plunge and ordered a HD3850!!

"Oh noooooo" I hear. "Should've gone for the 8800GT....." But it's a pressie and I had a budget, the 8800GT was 170-180 rips whereas the HD3850, which still had good reviews, was ON budget - and if I cant take to the KB/mouse for controlling games, it aint cost me nowt - PLUS, my lad will think I'm great for getting it coz he's WOW mad ;)

......Right then, where's that 'Fire' key.......

The 360 gets 4xAA on every game without a performance hit...

Doesn't look like it to my eyes: they might have it, but then why do games like Halo 3, etc. look rubbish on big TVs? Sure, their textures and models are very nice, but the jagged edges - once noticed - detract from the overall impression.

Playing Halo 3 on a 360 was great, but then I had a closer look when sniping and it was pretty atrocious. There was another demo of some game on the PS3 (some FPS) and again, it looked rubbish up close because of all the jagged edges. Again, the models and textures were very pretty, but it seems like a big step backwards over my PC.

LOL, free 4xAA that you cant notice, maybe because there is no AA applied in the games at all, it would bring the systems down to their knees, GFX intensive games at the moment are struggling to keep up a solid 30fps on the consoles.

I pity you if you have to do every time you want to play a game.

i just play games none of that faffing about.

Agreed having to pay a yearly live fee puts me off like it's not enough you buy the games for extortionate prices you have to pay for the pleasure to play them online.

Got a 360 and a fairly new pc.And for me as already said fps can ONLY be played well on PC if you ask me.Console ownz the driving/football sports world.
Case of what you want from your gaming.Myself i love fps UT cod etc and to play that type of game well you need a mouse simple the 360's sicks are no way near as easy to aim as a mouse. and the feeling of leting of a airstrike on half of a 30man server is great consoles are far from that kinda stage.

PS. hosting games pft its just not fair 0 ping to whatever you connect as is a joke is most type of games.

I admit after playing PGR4 I was thinking of getting an XBOX360 just for that!

Never heard such exaggerated bull crap in my life to be completely fair with you.

That said I have the PC in my sig and a 360 Elite, and it's entirely down to the game.

Ive got both

A decent PC, domain of the RPG, MMORPG, Racing Sims, FPS and RTS games. Ive yet to see a console do any of these better.

360, for my Arcade Racers (Forza, Sega Rally etc), Fighting games, platformers etc.

Consoles do the whole 'Fun fun fun for 60 mins' games very well.
PC's sap away your life with the crack-cocaine addiction games. (Think Counterstrike, WoW, Eve online etc).

Will consoles ever dominate PCs?

No

Not ever.

They are two different styles of games.

So stop thinking Consoles will kill the PC, since they wont. As a (very) long term gamer, I remember hearing this argument when the MegaDrive came out. And again with the N64 (why buy a 3Dfx when you can have an N64 kind of arguments then). And again with every new generation of console. Have they killed the PC? No. Will they? Dont see it happening. I personally cannot see MMO's comming to consoles. They really need a keyboard and mouse to interact with, since not everyone likes to use voice chat. Also, imagine playing Eve Online with a joypad?

To me, consoles do one thing well and PCs do another well. Lets leave it at that.

P.S.

IMHO, I know people hate MS, but to me they have revolutionised PC gaming with DirectX. Anyone in the old MS-DOS days remember the fun of setting up your sound card? (SB16 irq:5, low DMA:1 High DMA:7 Address:220, Port:330, thats been burned into my brain! And please dont mention VESA, I still shudder thinking about it.)

in here we have my PC, PS3 (mine) and me mate matthew brings his 360 round for some halo 3 gaming, must say for most games consoles seem to work better, just due to the fact there designed simply to play games which are designed to play only on that certain console, although there are lots of great titles on PC, supreme commander, crysis, company of heroes, dawn of war, that aren't available on console, so for that reason i prefer using my PC if that makes any sense

Same here.

I only use a console on to play fighting games, sports and racing games.

Every other type of game genre sucks on consoles really when you use a 'control pad'.

For a tenner you can get a converter to use PS2 joypads on PC. Problem solved

Then download an emulator and can play all the beat-em-ups you can shake a stick at. (X-men vs Streetfighter my current fave)

Get ya self a decent pc, get yaself a 360/ps3/Wii (360 being my choice though i own a 360 and ps3 and Wii comes next year sometime lol) and get the best of both worlds lol

jsut my opinion, but if you dont do that then you're missing out on a hell of a lot of good gaming :)

Consoles are best for action games such as beat em ups (Tekken, Virtua Fighter), racing (Forza, GT) and sports (Tennis, Football). PC's are best for FPS (Crysis, Unreal3, Oblivion) and Strategy (Supreme Commander, COH).

I have to disagree PC's are best for racing games too, rFactor is the best racing sim ever. My install is over 50gb and I don't all the the mods by any stretch. Had it for 30 months and still play it virtually daily. The realism is there for sim heads, with a decent host and universal setups fast paced RaceDriver'esque races are doable too for the more acrade minded types.

Also from my point of view console games seem to run very slowly. 360 always seems sub 30fps to me. I won't even start about game pads for FPS either.

The only console worth getting is a Wii, totally brilliant. Every gamer needs one. Tennis anyone?
