As above really: I have an 8tb storage drive which was in an external enclosure until last night. It is partitioned into 3. It has never had a boot record on there. Totally out of the blue, my PC would hang at the motherboard logo screen. After a bit of digging, it became apparent that the hard drive was causing the hang.
I removed the drive from its external enclosure and directly attached to my PC = No boot.

I then enabled hotplug for the relevant SATA port and booted without the HDD plugged in. Once I am in windows I can hot plug and the drive functions correctly.

So the drive seems ok... I am at a bit of a loss though.

Additionally, there have been some 'found.001' files that suggest the drive has been losing data anyway. Has anyone come across this behavior before?

Sounds like the software reallocated bad sectors that was causing a hang. Would check SMART info on drive sounds like its possibly going bad.
