Pc won't boot after reapplying cpu thermal compound.

No, that pic was taken after removing the cooler.

That's just a shadow :P

Currently I've got half a mind to take it to pizzy world and see what they can do there : /Thanks Plec I'll give that a go later or tomorrow :)

That gaf is a chop shop, you take it there and it'll come back with more problems that you started, its liek the NHS hospitals go in there with one ailment walk out with 2 for free !!!!

^He's right ya'know. Keep trying yourself mate, it'll cost more than a new motherboard, PSU or whatever at pizzy world for looking at it and stuff.

Personally, if I couldn't get it booting in any way whatsoever, I'd flag up in the member's market asking to borrow a PSU from somebody.

Any lights up on the motherboard? ~ninjaedit i'm not very clever really am I :p personally, I'm gonna vote board, I doubt the CPU's shot and both the sticks of RAM are shot.

Check the board very thoroughly for thermal compound, tiny bits can drop off easily. I'm an absolute clutz so always use nonconductive stuff 'cause of this.

What's this stuff, particularly the one with the arrow next to it

oh jewly, what you playing at.

steps like god told the prophet to do.

rebuild the pc, with only fundamentals aka no disc drive, mabe a hard drive. no soundcard.

power pc down, take battery out for 1 minute.

take all ram out and only put 1 stick in. keep turning the pc on and off multiple times and after several turn on/off's change the ram stick slot.

after that, if it doesn't work. consult to god and tell him your sorry for the stupid religous mistakes your parents did to you when you're young.

p.s. did actually rma your mobo in the end, because maybe this time, you should do...

f.y.i: i think you're pc has a virus because i did this once and my pc didn't start. i gave my pc to pc world and they magically fixed it and said there was a virus on HDD. so my advice is to connect your hard drive to another pc and run a virus scan. logic 0.

most probabley thermal paste which is happily 99.9% inconductive so shouldn't really cause any problems but use that cleaning stuff you bought and clean it off.

p.s. the i5-2500k doesn't luk as good as i thought= waste of monaies :(

I use MX-4 so it's non-conductive.

I have got some thermal compound remover so should I try that on any marks on the board?

I would start RMA'ing bits personally. Start with the mainboard.

Regards to static I dont think its a cause as ive built lots of machines on carpet and theyve all been fine.

Also MX4 is non conductive so cant see that being a issue.

fledge you insanity boy, text me if you done the god rules...

exspecially 1 stick of ram on serveral slots and with each slot turn it on and off 10 times.
in my experience my i5 750 running @ 4.2 ghz, refuses to start after i mess with the ram but after 10 turns on & off, its stable as a rock ... damn circuitry!

lets throw the static issue out of the window, the odds of it been the problem is BAD!

please jesus, fledge, you do turn the PSU off before you start diresecting circuitry, always a fun idea.

you may need to ring me :O, im sure ur js making fails... as much fail as me learning how a fridge operates when it's not in the specification ...
or wait until 2moz, where internet maybe up :@

Hope u get this sorted mate just read all the previous comments and its a shame none of the steps worked.
I feel for you as i recently had a faulty gpu which needed rma'ing.

Fledge,

Out of interest, did you try the 30 minute or longer cmos clear?

What about a multimeter for psu voltages? They can be got from a variety of places nowadays for next to almost nothing. (I'm not sure if ocuk sell them. I wsh I could post links)

Seems like everyone wants to see a happy ending on this one. Good luck.

Yeah I tried a 1h30mins cmos clear :D
I might be able to get my hands on a multimeter later so it's possible I could try that later.

I want to attach the mobo speaker but I don't think this board (Asus Maximus III Formula) actaully came with one so I have no way of telling what beeps may or may not be happening : /

I've checked through the mobo manual and all over the internets but I can't seem to find a scrap of information regarding the CPU LED >.<

Okay I've got myself a multimeter and some wiring so I can do the rudimentary PSU tests.

Multimeter Tests:
5v = Fine
12v = ~9% over 12. (that's more than 5%)
ATX = Over the 5% deviation - usually (all the black cables tested) I was getting about 3.5-3.62.

How does that sound?

Okay **** this it's RETURN MERCHANDISE AUTHORISATION time.

owned, sorry i couldn't help on ts. but really it was time to rma that mobo, you've had so many faulty problems with it!
