Hi,

Popped into the office today and one of my bosses is having problems with his pc. Its an hp amd bought from some random site a couple of years ago. Nothing too fancy but does the job (up til now).

He switched on his pc but it comes up with an error Nividea Boot Agent 249.0542

After having a quick google it suggests that the HD isn't being recognised check the cables. I've tried changing the sata cables about but still its not being recognised. I've popped into the boot menu and the only options are to boot from CD or LAN. Using the LAN option doesn't work and no point in doing the CD boot as there isn't a boot CD. I think the OS is installed in another section of the HD on a separate partition but that cant be accessed.

We backed up the pc about a week ago so we'd rather not have to risk losing the data from the past 7 days.

As of yet I've not went into the 'setup' or 'system recovery' as I'm not sure if this will wipe the works data.

Can anyone offer some advice. Sorry for the vagueish post. More details can be supplied if required.

Is the HDD recognised in the bios?

Try a linux live cd to see if the HDD is accessable from an OS (you run the OS from the cd rather than the HDD so no risk to data)

Then come back!

Ive run the system diagnostics and I'm getting the error that BIOHD-2 has not been detected.

I'll have to download the linux live CD, have you got a link cos I've found the linux live cd list and not sure which one to download.

Just to clarify - have you tried different SATA Ports and different power connectors (not just the SATA cables)?

yes i tried different power cables as well. had to cut the cable tie keeping the redundant ones together

any chance you could remove the drive and connect it up to another pc ?

thats what i was going to try tonight. most of the pcs in the office are IDE HDs so dont have the cables etc to plug them into those ones. Was going to pop it into my pc at home and see if i can fiddle about with it there although this would be the first time I've tried something like this so expect some more questions later! :)

my boss's mate is coming in this afternoon and he runs his own IT business so he should get to the root of the problem. Thanks for the replies though :)
