Was wondering if anyone can help me. Recently my computer started acting up, access to the hard drives was slow and when I tried to install a program windows displayed a I/O error and would not create the temporary files. This occured directly after a windows update. Now however the computer will not even boot. The bios screen is displayed but after this it just goes to a black screen with flashing dash. The same happens if you try and enter the bios. I have tried removing 1/both hard drives as well as the DVD drive but it does the same thing. Is it bye bye motherboard or can anyone suggest a possible cause?

Oh yeah specs are:
Gigabyte GA 965P S3 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 cpu
Corsair 1GB DDR2 5400 memory

So you can't get into the bios at all?

The best way to test it to strip down your computer to minimum components needed like remove everything bar gfx card and obviously the cpu and memory. See if you can enter the bios with that if you still don't get any display on the screen try a different gfx card and if you have more than 1 memory module change it out to the other.

If you still have problems it's starting to look like its either the CPU or the motherboard if you have a spare CPU try that one, or if you have another PC you could try putting some of the hardware in there like hard drive gfx cards etc.

I would also recommend you to clear your CMOS, remove the battery from the motherboard and make sure you don't have any power going into the motherboard leave the battery out for 30s-60s.

If you still can't get into the bios after all this it's looking very much like a faulty motherboard.

I think it's a hard drive hanging, just remove the cables from them, and try a reboot..

*EDIT* just seen that you have tried that, remove one stick of memory, then reset cmos. Plus, is your keyboard usb?, maybe it ain't seeing it, hence you are unable to enter bios. On my logitech after the power has been turned off, I need to reconnect it, by pressing the connect button on both the unit and k/b.
