Pc won't boot up :(

temps dont seem to be an issue. has anything changed around the time of the problem first time, or have you been noticing little things but kind of put them down to one offs that were more inconvinient than a major panic?

Nope it just all happened at once, 2day when I was playing counter strike. It all froze up and that's when the problem started. Before hand I downloaded and installed crysis 2 demo from steam, thats it.

that does seem very odd. is the pc running as you would expect now, apart from the prime shutdown, or is it still a bit sluggish?

hmm...........well if it was me i would first check everything and reseat it. if that didnt work then fresh install windows to rule out drivers or software corruption. if neither of those solve it, then its a case of swapping out parts until you get to the route of the problem.

I don't have any other part to swap with so that's going to be hard for me.
I kneo what else to do apart from a fresh clean install of win7.

thing is both prime95 and 3dmark have caused crashes, along with a game, so for me that would indicate cpu/ram issue. temps look good so not that. maybe 1 stick of ram at a time?

When I get in I will run memtest and see how that's goes.
I've been looking on the web about this file where it hangs and some ppl are saying run "chkdsk /r" what is this and how do I do it.

again, using the windows cd, go to repair tools and load the command prompt. type : chkdsk /r c: (the c isnt needed but i do it just incase) and hit enter and let it do its thing. basically its check disk, the kind of thing you saw a lot of if you shut win 98 and xp down improperly. it can repair damaged or orphaned files, but the system restore would have done that anyway, or atleast should have.

I would say PSU, what PSU do you have and for how long have you had it?

p.s. turn off all OCs for the time being and test it.

Ok then cool. I will do all this stuff 2night wen I get from work and let u know how I get on.

Would it be better in the long run that I format and do a clean install of windows?

Thanks for your time and info :).

a fresh install wont hurt no, but if its a hardware problem, then can be a lot of effort (backing up, installing drivers, installing games.....) and still be in the same boat.

Alseat in one way i will know it will be a hardware fault. As for backing up I've got it taken care of as I have 750gb hdd for back up and my stuff gets back up weekly.

Silly question if it is the CPU? Can I still rma even tho it has been oberclocked?.

Cheers.

hi,

Ok since last time i posted i have gone back into my bios and up the vcore to 1.30v and had prime 95 running for 1hour and 30 mins with out any problems.
I then stated 3d mark 11 and and that run fine as well.

so everything at the mo is running normal again..

Is this score any good for 3d mark 11? Click here. it just that my gfx Core clock @ 157 MHz and Memory clock @ 300 MHz look rather slow and
my ram @667 mhz when i thought it should be 1600mhz

Thanks

Are you still getting an error with Prime? If so that needs sorting. Might need a extra notch on the vcore. Do you still have the Antec Truepower psu? If so that would easily power your rig unless it's developing a fault.
