Just formatted and installed Vista and that wen't okay, but when I rebooted it won't come back up.

I removed the DVD from the drive, when I boot, the screen is black and the fan (can't tell which one(s)) sound like they are going full pelt - they usually ramp up but then quieten down.

I don't even get BIOS - so I don't think it's related to Vista as it doesn't get anywhere near the OS.

I checked the DVI cable and that seems fine.

Don't know what to try next? :(

Try this first:

Have you tried to leave the machine powered off for a minute or two? (Turn off the machine and then turn it off at the PSU as well)

If that doesn't work then try this:

Have you tried to reset your BIOS?

Let us know how you get on.

It's been powered off for about 15 mins now, I'll go upstairs and try restarting it now.

Can you tell me how to reset the BIOS?

- By the way, it's important that the power was off totally, either by the switch at the back of the PSU or at the wall socket.

Which motherboard do you have? :)

Okay I tried the power but that didn't work - but I noticed that the PSU switch was still on so I switched it back off and turned that off too - will try turning on again in 10 mins or so.

I have the A8R32-MVP Deluxe.

If that method is going to work, it will only take a few minutes (2 max). I will just look at your manual to tell you specifically how to reset your BIOS.

EDIT: Right, if you have your manual handy, the part that tells you on how to reset your BIOS is on 2-20 Chapter 2 - Hardware information.

Basically, what you need to do is:

1) Turn the pc off and turn it off at the back of the PSU.
2)Remove the battery
3)To the right of the battery you will see a little jumper on two of the three pins. All you need to do is move the jumper to the last two pins leaving the first pin uncovered. Leave it in that position for a minute and then move it back.
4) Put the battery back in

That's all thats to it really, as I say, the manual explains better than I have, plus it has pictures! :p

Let us know how you get on.

No problem :)

Glad I could help.

EDIT: While I remember, now you've reset the BIOS, there may be a few options you may need to tweak in order to get top performance/stability but as long as it's running ok now. :)

It should load best settings anyway, so I wouldn't worry.
