Im in need of some help please.

I bought a ASUS Vintage system from OCUK last year and it has run sweetly until yesterday. I turned it off one night and came to turn it on the next day and it will not load windows, in fact it wont complete the POST.

I have tried booting from floppy and windows CD but it wont boot into setup. I can get into the BIOS but that is about it. Do you think I need to switch HDD or perhaps clear the CMOS ?

Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks

1. Clear CMOS - Boot?
2. Run diagnostics on hard disk
3. Run diagnostics of memory
4. If all above pass Ok - Try a different PSU
5. Rare but your motherboard could be at fault if all the above pass or dont help the issue.

OK I have some more info.

I have cleaned the bugger as it was really dusty and have reset the CMOS.

No change really but I have been into windows once now, but only in safe mode. Also I have managed to boot into setup via the windows CD but I can only get as far as "setup is entering windows" before it hangs.

I did also get a blue screen once, which gave me a STOP code of 0x000000F4 which i have looked up and didnt really help as it was going on about the HDD being set as a slave which it isnt.

Just wondering if that extra info would help someone give me a clue as im still not sure if if its a hardware problem ?

Thanks and Merry Xmas

It would be useful if you get some diag tools that you can run from a boot cd.
Like curiosityx said you need to run some tests on the HDD and Mem.

Other than that try a windows reinstall.

Thanks Ill try those and report back.

I would glady re-install if I could but it alway hangs at the end of setup where it say "setup is starting windows"
