Intel E5200 @ 8.017ghz (although vista & speedfan say 8.26)
Gigabyte GA73PVMS2H
Kingston HyperX DDR2 800 4gb @ 911mhz 5-4-4-9-12 2T
Seagate Barracuda 1.5tb

The problem i'm having is as soon as i clock over 6gig on the cpu the pc won't cold boot, it stops mid way through post and requires me to enter bios although NOT change anything and exit, then it boots up fine. This issue doesn't occur on a restart either. It's as if its resetting the cmos as the ram info is displayed but is incorrect but somehow entering and exiting the bios resolves this. The battery is fine and so is it's connection. It isn't a major problem but it isn't perfect, if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

lol yeah it should be stable, plenty have gotten an e5200 to 8 and beyond. everything else is fine just cold boot

u shud validate ur cpuz on tht, cos that looks like a world record according to this on the hall of fame:

World Frequency Records (Intel Core 2 CPU) :
Nº 1 : F.O.G.N.A. reached 6820.31 MHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (45 nm) [Details]

MB : Asus Rampage Extreme (Intel X48 rev 01) - RAM : Kingston 2048 MB
Nº 2 : Boblemagnifique LN2 Ixtk reached 6761.43 MHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (45 nm) [Details]

MB : Biostar TPower I45 (Intel P45 rev A2) - RAM : Crucial Technology 2048 MB
Nº 3 : Andre Yang reached 6721.63 MHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (45 nm) [Details]

MB : Asus Rampage Extreme (Intel X48 rev 01) - RAM : Corsair 2048 MB
Nº 4 : tsan reached 6713.46 MHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (45 nm) [Details]

MB : Asus Rampage Extreme (Intel X48 rev 01) - RAM : G.Skill 2048 MB
Nº 5 : Biostar Computex 2009 Boblemagnifique reached 6705.8 MHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (45 nm) [Details]

If ur at 8GHz then damn.

Dude, you should really read up on CPU architecture, just because you have a dual core doesnt mean your running at double the speed! If that was true my Q6600 would be at 14.4GHz!

Oh yeah, and try applying some more CPU/Northbridge voltage. I used to have that problem with my board.

both cores read the same or there abouts so forgive me if i'm wrong, where should i be getting a reading from? everything says around the same whether it's bios, the os, cpuz, speedfan, pcwizard u name it.

I can't change the nb voltage unfortunately, nor the ram volt. not the greatest mobo.

I doubt very much your BIOS reports 8GHz as your clock speed. Chances are if you cant adjust your RAM/NB voltages you've been lucky to even get as far as you have.

yep id say i have, took long enough doing it. so what reading am i supposed to believe and any other ideas as to the boot problem?

Try changing your FSB abit, might be abit of a black spot in your FSB. E.G. My board doesnt like 420-430 but anything higher or lower pretty much works fine.

And have a go at sticking some more Voltage through the core, i wouldnt recommend anymore than 1.45/1.5v for everyday use.

I've tried all other volts through cpu think it's on 1.47v currently, more doesn't make it stable i've tried. could play with the fsb but i found to get this speed and with the ram half decent this was the sweet spot (334/1336). suppose its just one of those things i'll have to live with unless i want it running at less than 3gig per core :(

Ask yourself though...Do you need 4GHz? I know for sure most of the systems ive overclocked have been fine at 3.2GHz, in games the CPU is hardly ever the bottleneck.

lol yeah i see your point but the boot prob only goes when below 3 and performance isn't great at that point. An i7 920 d0 would satisfy me i'm sure but moneys another thing. Even at 4 it cant run games properly, onboard graphics are poo and the mobo graphics accelerator just causes a load of issues in itself, believe it or not but burning out usb devices being one of them!

yeah do a lot of encoding and authoring, also its more bang for my buck aint it. good fun too making the most out of what have.
