I was using my pc fine and rebooted to install latest updates, it's usually just left on all the time and now it won't power back on.

I've tried the paper clip trick on the PSU and that fires up still but when all reconnected and press the power button nothing happens.

No fans spin up or anything but the network light is flashing in the nic so I know the motherboard is getting power.

Any ideas what could have happened?

Do I need a new motherboard?

Tried powering it up via the pins on the motherboard rather than the power button in case this is faulty?

What is the spec of the PC?

I had similar after my 2 year old kept smashing the power button, had to check PSU and power button and ended up replacing the motherboard (with a full rebuild in the end).

This guide is useful if you have a multimeter to test the PSU properly:
Handy site and easy to follow.

Just need a good multimeter now lol

As mentioned before, the PSU on its own may fire up, but if is faulty, won’t manage when feeding the system. Had this issue with an OCZ power supply and a Thermaltake, both ages ago.
