PC wont start

A few days ago for the first time ever i put my PC into standby mode, it seemed fine about an hour or so after when i passed by my room, however just before i went to bed it was making a quite nasty high pitched fan noise and the HDD light was flashing loads.
No matter what i did i couldn't wake it up (pressed all keys, held power switch/restart switch) so i had no choice but to switch it off at the wall.
When i tried switching it back on again it failed to start up, no LED's lit up, fans started anything.

Took it apart and came to the conclusion that it was probably something to do with the power supply so i ordered a corsair HX 620 on Sunday to replace my Tagen 450W.

Just installed it now and plugged everything back in, triple checked its all right and it still wont start up. The only difference is that this time the power light on the mobo comes on but it still wont start.

I've checked the wires from the power switch to mobo and they work and im at a total loss as to whats wrong with it. I'm hoping its something stupid i missed but the only conclusion i can up with is that something has fried itself.

Spec is: AMD Athlon 1.8Ghz, Asus A8N SLi Deluxe, 2GB Geil Value, ATi
X850XT PE

Hope you can help :x
