PC Won't switch on?

I came to switch on my PC this morning and I got no response to the on off button, just silence. I have checked the sources and they are all fine, and looking around the back of the PC I can see that the light on the power switch for the PSU is illuminated, so power is getting from the socket to to PSU, but it would seem no further.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Tried to have a fiddle with the power switch, connected it, reconnected it etc, and still nothing. Any other pointers?

You can eliminate the switch by shorting the PWR jumper on on the mobo itself. If it doesn't start then try jump starting the PSU by pulling out the 20/24 pin mobo connector and short pins 14 and 15, see here for more info http://pinouts.ru/Power/atxpower_pinout.shtml. If the PSU doesn't start up then it could be at fault. If it does then you'll need to start pulling the system apart to determine what's dead.

It is the power supply! I got it up on a bench and had a good nose around and the power supply was surging and running very hot, smelling and simply failing to delivery enough power to the Motherboard. It was causing the light on the mobo to flicker and the fan on the PSU was running slow and stop starting.

Hiper 680 watt is now in the bin and shall pop in and fetch a new one tomorrow, and probably about £1000's worth of other bits which is the norm when I hit.............THE TRADE COUNTER :)
