I was adding some new fans earlier, but when I came to boot the pc back up, it wouldn't start again - completely dead.

With the side of the case off, there is no leds on on the motherboard.

Checks done so far (not in the order they were done)
Power lead & socket OK -tried different leads and in different power sockets, no joy.
CMOS battery removed, PC unplugged for 15min = no difference.
RAM - both sticks seated ok
Additional fans (2) both unplugged
All power cables checked.
Gfx card seated ok.
Also checked with housemate's multimeter - readings were 0.67v when switched on for a molex connected to the psu.

I would guess that the PSU has given up the ghost for some reason - not sure why as it's only a few months old. Any thing else it could be before I RMA it to overclockers?

Spec:
XFX Pro 850W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' PSU
i5 4670k
8gb patriot ram
gigabyte ga-z87xoc mobo
Fractaldesign Define XL R2 case
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 WindForce 3x OC 2048MB graphics

On the PSU check, remove all power cables and only connect a fan to a Molex (if possible) and link out pins 13 & 14 (counting without the extra 4 pins) and see what happens and check the voltage.

Thanks for the reply RJC - that test was my backup (as I'd rather not be messing around with linking cables if I could avoid it). In the mean time I remembered I had an old PSU - a trusty 450w TAGAN from my old PC. Swapped them over and the motherboard powers up straight away - LEDs on, fans whirring away, etc. etc.

Therefore, new PSU is needed. Bit lame it dying after just over 3 months when my old Tagan still runs over 7 years later!

Update: Finally XFX tested it and confirmed it was dead. XFX sent another one to OC who shipped it onto me. Turned out to DOA, so got a refund.

Won't be touching any XFX stuff with a barge pole in future!

I would say it's more a case of bad luck. I have had my XFX psu since March, and it has never skipped a beat. All XFX psu's are made by Seasonic, who are one of the most respected names in the business.

That's what I put the first one down to, but not after the second one was DOA on arrival. Also interesting how OC don't stock many of their products any more ...
