Well here's my situation:

Big thunderstorm very nearby started so i turned off my PC. Didn't have much else to do so did some cable tidying. After the storm had been long gone i went to turn it back on.... nothing i press the power button and nothing happens  But the motherboard LED is on

I've tried resetting the Cmos, taking bios batt out. No luck.

Spec: 3700 sandy, Asus A8N -VM CSM, 1gb PC3200, 7800GT, Tagan 580W non-modular.

Can anyone think of anything i could try to get it working or find the fault?

Any help much apreciated

Have you accidentally yanked out the power switch pins?

They're usually at the bottom-right of the motherboard, make sure they're not loose.

I've done that before, spent ages wondering what could be up, reseating cards, checking cables, then I saw the little wire hanging loose and slapped myself for being stupid!

Have you checked for shorts in the case? Reseated the cards, RAM etc incase you knocked them tidying the cables?

Power switch is in, have had a quite look over for shorts in all the places i was fiddling and can't see anything. Am going to do a quick rebuild/have minimal things plugged in tomorrow. Can't think what else to try. Will try get a PSU off someone to test that. Any other possibilities?

Thanks

I'd like to check if it is the PSU, just like to check it's the green to any black pin you connect?

What other part failing could cause this problem?

thanks

Yer, thats the only sign that anythings going on inside. Don't think there should be anything else thats on when the PC is plugged in but not switched on.

Odd, i had a PC do the same yesterday.

Swapped the PSU, and no change, they were spare parts so i chucked them out.

Only thing i didnt try was the parts outside the case, but like i said, was old spare parts and couldnt be arsed with them, especially after spending half my day looking at win98 blue screens and error messages.

Well i've taken as much as i can out. Now its only the 24pin PSU and 4 pin, aswell as HDD, RAM and power switch set. Took the GPU out and am using onboard. Now for some reason as soon as i hit the big switch on the PSU the PSU turns semi on (a lot quieter than normal) but the system still does nothing when the front power button is pressed

What on earth is going on!?
