last night i shut down my PC as i always do, so i went to turn on my pc this morning and nothing it wont turn on. i have changed the fuse in the plug and still no joy :(

can you guy suggest what i could do next or what might of caused it?

Oh so many things, ensure all cables are connected correctly and nothing has got knocked in any way.

hmm that makes me nervous i dont really want to stick my hands inside incase i make it worse and what not static and all that

have you tried plugging into another socket that you know works ?

yes i have done this with the PC and other appliances the other things work tho :(

where did you get the new fuse from? Possible that you put a blown fuse in, or that you put a fuse with a low amp rating that just blew again - I think a 13 amp fuse is normal, but please dont quote me on this, if there is a short or a psu problem putting in the wrong fuse may alow the machine to draw a lot of power and cause significant damage - can anyone confirm that a 13 amp fuse is required?

[edit] also, some psu's have a power switch on them, it's an obvious question but make sure it is switched on, if it is, try switching it off then on again

it had a 5amp fuse in and i swapped it for another 5amp fuse and i have tried multiple times with the switch on the psu in both positions :(

I would suggest that you follow Turopobic's advice then and check everything is connected properly. Unplug the machines power cable (even though it doesnt seem to be working, you dont want any suprises) and earth yourself while looking in the case (I frequently touch the case or a radiator) - I would suggest puting the machine on a table, You will generate static if your feet are moving on the floor so if you are really worried about static keep your feet still as much as possible and touch the case every now and then to ground any static electricity you build up.

It's a PC not a kettle, so it's 5amp!
If it won't boot you'll end up looking in the case.

I always start by checking the PSU if I get given a dead one to fix, but I do have the tools (bit of wire and DMM)
If thats good I clear CMOS and remove battery for a few mins and check the lead to the on / off switch. (I have one for testing to rule that out)

Now all that will cost you less than £20, and is very handy to have.

thanks for clearing that up for me :D

I made the same mistake.
They call then kettle leads, but they are different.

The proper PC one is..

Moulded IEC Mains Lead

Moulded, high quality IEC-320 type C13 (BS4491) socket to moulded, non-rewirable cable assembly rated at 5A 250Vac. The plug is supplied with a 5A fuse. This is the standard power lead as used by PCs, test equipment, etc

The confusion comes with "Kettle style 3 Pin plug"

So, does nothing light up in any way when you power on? No humming or whirring? At this stage, could still be many things, faulty PSU, Motherboad/CPU or dodgy power lead. There is a method for checking your PSU with a paper clip Which may help you eliminate that. I haven't tried this method myself, do so at your own risk!

Another thing you can do is reset the cmos memory via the jumper. I wouldn't have thought this would fix the problem, but it's a harmless thing to try.

no nothing lights up no humming no whirring no nothing i hope its just a power lead or psu as i still have warranty on it but not on mobo, cpu :(

as for the paper clip method i aint trying it lol its going back to the guys that built it for me in the morning hopefully its a quick fix as i really cant be doing with replaceing parts :(

could a power surge of made this happen?

You need to consult your motherboard manual, there will be a jumper near the CMOS battery that you need to move to clear the CMOS memory. What motherboard do you have?

...and i have tried multiple times with the switch on the psu in both positions :(

Uhm, which switch? Not the 110v/230v one I hope. These are baaad. Seen many PSU's go boom when they're on mains 240v and someone sets them to 110v.

So are we to assume that a shop made it for you?
