PC wont turn on please help

You'rve already done

Thing the First ( checked blatantly obvious stuff)

so

Thing the Second..... take the left side (as you look at it from the front) off the case and see if the pwr case wire has come adrift. ( shine a torch in... It's usually down the bottom towards the front. along with other "twisted pair" wires)

look at this piccie.. see all those Twisted pair wires chucked out the way to the right.. one of those is PWR

Depends how secure it was in the first place. Those leads are not a "tight fit" anyway.

Things is... When your've check the blatantly obvious you go onto the obvious and so on...

That pwr lead connects to the button on the front of your case. so if its not making contact.......

Dont worry.. you wont make anything go bang.. or electrocute yourself. Max voltage inside that case is 12volts (just dont go poking stuff into the psu)

ok i had a fiddle with cables and took off the front part of the case and then put it back together

i plugged it all back in and pressed the power button it powered on for a split second then went dead again it did this twice and has now gone back to how it was :(

i guess i can assume its just a loose connection somewhere that i cant get to without removing parts and that my pc isnt fried so i think i'll leave the guys that built it to fix it in the morning

Yay, You sussed it.

That is a classic sign of a duff psu. I've had that happen to FOUR psu's over the years before I learnt to buy at least a half decent one.

well its been looked at and the psu is faulty so it needs to be sent back :(

also expect a thread on how to connect the new psu to everything as they want another 40 quid to do it for me (it cost me £15 for them to look at it today)so i will need all the help i can get as i dont have the first clue as to what im doing but i cant afford to shell more money for some1 else to do it for me

Indeed, I'm surprised that one has gone down.

OcUk should get one to you next day after ordering. My mate just put THIS PSU in his latest build and I was impressed how quiet it is. ( I believe his was the 700 watt version though)

The most fiddly part of installing a new Psu is routing all the damn cables neatly out the way.

Just get a sheet of A4 and draw whats connected and reconnect the new one parrot fashion.

im gutted less than a week at something breaks,

im just a little nervous now cos i have to disconnect everything and then put it all back together when the new 1 arrives

Don't worry. You cant put a connector on the wrong way.

The main motherboard connector can be a bit fiddly as they have a "square Four" plug attached to them now and you have to insert that plug before the main plug because the main one kinda traps it in place.

If your Motherboard has that new style connector you WILL see what I'm on about.

Any Probs .. Just Holler !!

:-)

cheers outcast

am i right in thinking that when i get the new psu and its all connected correctly all i need to do is turn it on and everything will be as normal?

You can only hope.
So you took it into a shop and they charged £15 to test it, and want £40 to fit a new one?
It's not hard to fit a new one, getting the wires tidy can be a pain.
Just 4 screws and lots of plugs!

yep thats right if he had told me he wanted money last night when i spoke to him i wouldnt of bothered as thanks to you guys we pretty much had the problem located, but he said "bring it down we get ya up and running again in no time" so i turn up and he ask for £15 then tells me he wants £40 to fit the new PSU in when i get it as its an afternoons work.

i'm going to dissconnect it in a minute and have it shipped back to OcUK today or 2moz morning and with any luck have it built again for the weekend (fingers crossed) but i am worried i'll do more harm than good as i really cant afford to mess anything up as i cant afford to get him to do it for me either :S

Unless you have a case that makes it VERY awkward, it isn't an afternoons work.
Thinking....not even in an awkward case would it take that long!

Open the case yourself and take some photos and just replace it yourself.

This case....

i had to unplug the ribbon cable to the optical drive and the USB01 and AUDI01 on the motherboard to get the power cables to the HDD out also the clip next to the CPU was a bitch to get out but i got there

just spoke with OcUK and there really struggling for staff today so they said its unlikely i will get my new PSU sent out today? but it maybe here for friday or quite possibly monday :'(
