PC would not POST at default timings

I have just received my replacement 2x1Gb Patriot 3200LLK 2-3-2-5 (I had faulty 2x512Mb 3200 XBLK 2-2-2-5).

If I try to manually put the default timings the PC does not POST. Fortunately I have provisional memory and could change the BIOS to Auto.

In that case it POST but the timings are 2.5-3-3-5. I have not yet played with the voltage, (the reccommended is 2.7V).

My motherboard is ASUS A8N Sli Deluxe and the VDIMM is at Auto.

I suspect that the mobo could undervolt the memory but have been wondering what the default motherboard VDIMM is.

If this does not work, is this a good reason for RMA (which I do not fancy tbh given the time scale and all the problems I had with import tax, etc.)?

Any comments/advice will be highly appreciated.

Can't you try & give it 2.8v & see if it boots then ? Like you say it may be undervolting
Hi Rob,

I did try to raise the VDIMM to 2.8V but no joy either.

I have decided to RMA the sticks. I am not asking for anything more but to have the claimed timings, and the memory is expensive even now when DDR is leaving the scene. I have had tighther timings (2-2-2-5) with the same board and did not have any problems. I have also asked ASUS for any compatibility issues but I now firmly believe it is the memory sticks. Moreover there are some black marks on both sticks from permanent marker, that should not be there at all. It seems as if someone has checked them out for something in the past. The same sticks might have been RMA-ed by someone in the past and they simply got rid of them sending them over.

What are my chances if the memory runs Memetest and Memtest86 with no errors but at RELAXED timings and will never POST at the claimed ones?

Cheers.

I swear I have the same problem with my patriot memory. ATM I'm running them at the defualt timings but at DDR333 not DDR400. I've tried upping the volts but I get to the stage when I have to reset the CMOS because the PC won't boot up.

I've had this problem since I've had the memory but didn't think much of it at the time.

This is a too expensive memory to let them off the hook (It is still £ 190 in the UK). I am going to start another RMA. The price is because they claim tight timings. If they cannot perform as they say then they should either drop the price or RMA the products that are faulty.

Is yours 2x1Gb 3200LLK?

Mine are these. 2x1GB 3200 LL. Should I be able to run mine at the quoted timings and speed? I can only get mine to the timings they claim if I run it slower.

I just read they have a lifetime warranty so I might pursue them aswell.

These are exactly the same. I have already sent them an e-mail explaining the situation.

You could have a look at a famous US on-line retailer - "old" egg. People have left comments on that memory and there quite a few that have had similar problems, RMAed the sticks, got new ones - problems solved.

You might be lucky if yours are less than one year old as you could RMA them locally. I have to return mine to the US which is a pain in the back side (more than one year old).

I've just emailed them too. Don't know why I left it so long. :( I've had them for over a year now. :(

Hi Mundu,

Have you heard from them?

I have been asked to do things I had already done or for e.g. whether I had a second PC to check the memory.

Have you succeeded in getting your RMA number?

Curious, I have 2Gb Patriot 3200 in my current system which runs perfectly at default voltage and default settings at T1 in my Athlon FX57 system. I bought these to replace 2gb Corsair TwinX Pro which had run perfectly in my old Intel system. Strangely the Corsair memory had to be underclocked to run stably in my AMD system. The Corsair ram still runs well in an Intel board and passes Memtest and throws up no errors or problems.

Perhaps God is playing tricks with us?

I also think that this is great memory but it looks as you have to be lucky to get the right kit of matched sticks.

I hope that this time I would get working pair and really enjoy their performance.

Just got back from venice and all they said was this:
Try going into the bios and manaully set the timings to:

CAS Latency (CL)- 2

RAS to CAS Delay (TRCD)- 3

RAS Precharge (TRP)- 2

Active to Precharge Delay (TRAS)- 5

Set the cmd rate to 2t and the voltage to 2.7v

Seems slightly pointless as I emailed them saying I had tried that!

I guess this is part of the written instructions and they simply blindly follow them

I had exactly the same mail, I will not be suprised if the punctuation was the same.

After several suggestions on their side, and my replies I have finally got RMA number. I am sending mine on Monday morning.

BTW have you experienced any no POST outcome if you had the memory timings on manual with the claimed timings and voltage?

Only if I up the volts to 3.0v

Edit: Sorry no it always POSTs but never gets any further.

Hi Mundu

In the beginning of February I sent my modules back for replacement and I have not heard anything from Patriot since then. I know for certain that they have got my modules and these have been there for more than two weeks.

Have you managed to get yours sorted? Have you received the replacement and if yes, do they do as it says on the tin?

Cheers.

I just sent mine off the other day so I'll see what happens now. I'll cheack the online tracking too see if it's gotten there yet.

Mine's allready in the US according to royal mail.
I meant the moment when you find that someone has signed for it. Theye give you the time and the day. I was pleasantly suprised by this. It is not DHL but still ten times cheaper :)
