PC Zone to close down - last issue September 2nd

Thats a shame, PCZone used to be my gaming bible back in the mid 90's.

I confess I havent bought a physical gaming magazine in a very long time though.

I brought it religiously from 1993 til 2003 IIRC the internet killed it really around then and the price shot up its been a long slow death.

I used to buy a lot of Amiga magazines. Cover disks used to be a big appeal with game demos and utilities but now we have the internet, there's no point.

I used to freelance for them in the early 90's briefly but the magazine itself has been on a slide for a while so I'm not surprised it's finally been axed

It is a shame, but sadly I stopped buying the magazine around 2003/4. I think the last issue I purchased was with the Half Life 2 mega review etc, and talking about Steam...

PC Zone was always a good read back in the day. It's just a victim of the internet, the CD /DVD is now useless as you can get all the content on the internet, and the reviews are out of date by the type the magazine hits the shelf. Even previews and the news are well, not new..!!

Oh well, was a great mag back in the heights of PC gaming, just another sign of changing times.

Me to... amiga mags were about the only way to easily get software and freeware etc... If you were lucky enough to have a modem and a BB service, I still remember the days of amiga phreaking etc but magazines were a good source of content, and reviews and news...

I ditched all my amiga and PC magazines last time I moved, some 6 - 7 years ago now. I think I've still got a few copies of PC Zone and PC format from 2003/4 kicking about, maybe...

PC Zone fan!

Still buy the odd copy but it's being a few years since I was subscribed.

Sign of the times.

Sad times :(

Oh I remember BBS on the Amiga using a 1200bps modem. Looking at a text list of .iff images and spending 20 minutes downloading one just to see what it was!:o My mum always knew if I was using it because when I hung up, all the phones in the house used to go 'DIINNNNG':D

lol me to, I loved how they used xxx and zzz s etc to make up logos etc, and it took ages to download using your BBS reader. My parents soon got fed up with the phone being used though, and took my modem away from me until I got a job and could afford my own phone line.

Me and a mate would spend hours looking for mods, games, samples, pictures or anything we could download. Our Amiga's had 50MB HDD and trust me, in that day and age it was quite a lot of storage space.

PC zone was just a continuation of what Amiga mags were really. Its the fault of the internet and quicker internet connections that's killed this mag off.

I loved it in the early/mid-nineties, but stopped reading after that.

I was absolutely gutted when TPCG died earlier this year, but I'm not so bothered by PCZ ending, as it wasn't what I wanted from a PC mag any more.

Oh well, I'm getting a sub for PC Gamer now. Surely the UK can support one PC gaming specialist mag?

Such a real shame, was the best PC mag and used to get it a lot in the late 90's early 2000's

I can see others going this way too :(

How much is it in uk?its very expensive over here in ireland

Last time I looked it was something like £5.50 with a DVD on the cover. Or was it a CD? Can't fully remember but I do remember it feeling rather thin, average of 90 pages maybe?

Lot of money for old news and reviews and CD or DVD content you could download of the net for free. I can see why its now closing its doors.
