PC3500+X2 3800+ Overclocking

HT will have virtually (read absolutely) no effect in games or benchmarking.

You should be seeing quite a marked improvement in games with that clock and the nice RAM. What graphics card are you using?

I'm using the 7800GT at 469/1093mhz. It's the Gigabyte 7800GT and i've definately seen better clock speeds from other 7800GT cards.
Here are all my new speeds: http://burnoutmodels.com/images/Speed.jpg

nice overclock.

with my amd 4400 i cant boot into windows at 2.7ghz, did you have the same problem when you first started overclocking your 3800?

i tryed 1.53v at 2.7ghz (270x10) and it wouldnt have it.

im thinking of getting a cheap new mobo, the dfi lan part one.

i think the fsb on my motherboard is a bit crap, not sure why it wont go over 270. alltho it might be my cpu that cant handle 2.7ghz

im allso thinking about removing my IHS cause one core gets 10c hotter than other lol

anyway, sorry i talk a lot, but did you have the same glitch not being able to go over 2.6ghz and not booting in 2.7 if so how did you cure it, thanks

I'm no expert but i'm sure your 4400 should go over 2.7ghz :)
Make sure the 'HT' is set to '3x' and also make sure the RAM speed is set to 333 not 400, it could be your ram running too fast which is causing the problem.
When i first stated overclocking my x2 i ddin't realise that you had to lower the RAM speed because of the CPU/RAM speed divider, easy mistake to make i suppose :p

yup i know.

iv got my ram on a divider etc. iv been overclocking for some time now i know pretty much a to z but i think i have a poor cpu it doesnt like to clock

The X2 4400 isn't a brilliant clocker, although you should be able to get it over 2.7 GHz. A new board may do the trick, as you say.

What you could do to test if it is the mobo limiting the OC ... drop the CPU multi down one or two and then raise the FSB up over the point you're having difficulty with. If it's OK with that, the mobo is fine and the CPU is the problem. A difference of 10C between the cores is surprisingly large, really - there can't be very good contact to one of the cores. On my X2 3800, the cores never differ in temp by more than a degree when fully loaded and they're normally exactly the same.

yup im planning on removing the IHS when i get a water cooling going,

allso im getting a new mobo cause i tryed the fsb higher and it wouldnt have it.

i Have 4GB of that ram i have never ran it on a div
But you need to slacken to 2.5-3-2-6 to get a good overclock.

I think it's my motherboard limiting my overclock to 2.85ghz :(
I tried FSB 290 + CPU Multi 8x (RAM 266, HT 3x) and it wouldn't even boot.
My CPU temps are fine, i think that the CPU could do a lot better but my A8N5X is limiting it.

It could be that your board isn't really giving the CPU 1.55v like it says it is. Mines supposed to be at 1.6v but it's more like 1.54 :(

Actually my board is giving more volts to the CPU than it says  . Check out the screenshot a couple posts back, in the BIOS the CPU voltage is set to 1.475 but on cpu-z it shows more.

The voltage readout on CPUZ is all over the place tbh, I don't know how much you should trust it. I'm pretty sure most ASUS boards have vdroop, that's what I'm thinking mine is undervolting :p

Most monitoring softwares are fairly random in my experience. If you open up several, you can guarantee at least one will be giving different readings for most things.

BIOS should be more accurate but the only way to be sure is with a voltmeter.
