Hi, I got my hands on a new Samsung HD503HI HDD 500GB, when it was been installed the person had connected the power and sata cable before installing it into the case, anyway he hit it off the case and fried the chip on the pcb, does anyone have any idea if it is possible to replace the board and get it working again??
thanks.

It's possible to change the board but it's a real hassle, you need to find a very close match to the original board for it to be in any way successful.

Normally it's a last resort option to recover data from the dead drive, if you're talking about a brand new drive then I wouldn't bother.

type pcb into google for replacment parts / boards, there's a site there in the UK that sells them for most makes an models etc, but like above it's not worth the hassle or cost tbh for such a low end drive, unless which it isn't data was needed so totally agree with above.

undoing a few screws isn't hard and it's not that hard to do, but it doesn't always work as it depends on other factors as well like parked heads etc and other things then not working once changed.
