Im reading 2 values while looking around for a figure on PCI-e 1x bandwidth. Does anyone know what im likely to get (In relation to using a PCI-e RAID card)? Its either 266MB/sec or 5Gb.

It's looking increasingly sound to buy a basic board with decent raid features that can moved between systems (considering nforce/intel chipsets seem to be almost leapfrogging each other and I belive theres still issues with different raid chipsets not making compatible raids?) but im currently saddled with just a 1x PCI-e.

Final question: Would a 4x PCI-e card (like rocketraid) work ok in a 1x slot with less bandwidth (like PCI-X server cards work in PCI).

PCIe is 250MB/s full duplex per lane. 1x is (cunningly) one lane.

A PCIe 4x card *should* work in a 1x slot however only if the slot is open ended which very few are. It will quite happily work in a spare 16x slot though.
