So I'm looking at upgrading my gf hdd in he laptop and one option I am looking at is giving her mine and upgrading my SSD to a M.2. However my mobo doesn't support M.2. so I am looking getting a new ish m.2. hdd for a future system and getting an PCI-E adaptor to fit it to the current system. I understand that this will throttle the speeds I can get as I think my PCI-E slots are 2.0 not 3.0.

Anyone have any experience in this and can recommend an adaptor?

Reading more into it i'm not sure I would be able to boot from the NVMe drive due to my board not supporting it... how annoying.
