I'm lookin for a decent PCI-E GPU for around £50... now I know i'm not going to get anything spectacular but it needs to be as powerful as it can for the price really. And to be really honest... I have no idea what to look at in a GPU... I just read the price and name =(

Atm, I have a Sapphire X1950 Pro but it's AGP 8 , which won't fit in the 4.4GHz OCuk overclocked bundle mobo. I'm wondering if any of the ATI cards that are suggested will be a bit better than my Sapph?

Mainly plan to game on it... WoW mainly (typical eh? :)) and a bit of CoD. It's either gonna be the £265 or £275 bundle, 4.4GHz and 4.2GHz respectively.

Which out of the cards would you say has the better bang for buck? I actually think the 5570 has bigger numbers....... But that's as far as my mind goes -.-

Edit: My PSU is already done, it's a ModXStream 500w and I have 3x fans in the case already (disabled currently) as it's an old server case

Is only CoD4 that i'll be playing on it. would the GDDR5 be a bit better than GT8800 then? Man I hate upgrading. :P

Atm I play on 1280x1024... on a 19 inch screen. Doesn't need to be much higher reso tbh.

edit: I also don't have an HD capable screen, so are the HD ones worth it?
 
The 8800gt hands down.

The only issue is the 3 month warranty, and 8800gt's having a reputation for failing.

OK. Thanks for the input folks. Will let you know what I've purchased in a couple of days. Going to the Nurburgring sunday to tuesday so maybe do it before :)
 
I've also just noticed the 8800GT is a Grade A OEM? Anyone able to elaborate a bit on what that means?

edit: Oh I see jigger just said about that.... Well that turns my choice upside down then coz I want at least 1 year warranty :( I guess the next choice for me is the HD 5550 GDDR 5 then?
 
It's probably a silly question but how would this compare to my 4770?

I like the look of this, plus the fact that you don't need the massive adapter plugs for VGA and HDMI from a DVI output...
 
5750 and 4770 are about the same speed, as the 4770 IIRC was roughly on par with a 4850, which is also roughly what the 5750 goes again.
The 5750 does use very little power on idle, and some of them overclock quite nicely, IIRC my brother runs his core about +100Mhz over stock, and the ram about the same, all with stock cooling, and without running excessively hot.
 
So would you say it would be a worthwhile upgrade? being a 'next gen' model etc? different DirectX versions etc? That plus the fact it's got twice the memory...

I'm assuming it would be worth it, but I don't want to spend >£80 and not see much benefit
