I feel like a plank now!!!! I was reading a thread here just now where someone had asked about powering a GTX using the PCI-E Molex on the mobo. Um I am using mine to power three fans as I thought it was a power take off. The fans are working fine. I just read the manual of my DQ6 and low and behold it says it's a power socket to boost current to the PCI-E slots. I have a single 8800 GTS, should I be using the Molex to increase the current headroom for the GFX Card???

The morel here is to read the ******* manual

You don't have the PCI-EX power plugged into the 8800GTS? Plug it in! The card is seriously crippled without it.

I've done similar with hard drives, power the drive with a SATA power connector then use the redundant molex connector on the drive to power a fan to save running an extra molex conntector from the PSU.

You only need a molex plugged into the board if your running 2x cards in SLi, doesn't need to be used for a single card, my DS4 has got one of those molex's on it to to supply extra power to the slots for 2x cards, but seen as ive only got a GTS plugged in, i dont need to use it, as long as you have the 6x Pin PCI-E plugged into the card from your PSU you'll be fine. :)

i remember this from my old msi sli board, and my brothers a8n sli premium, we both had sli rigs at the time and the placement of the molex connector was a nightmare, i currently have the evga 680i sli board and its in a far better location not that ill be using sli again (to expensive)
