PCI Express 2.0 and 1 backwards compatible ??

Hi,

I have the following motherboard : GA-MA69G-S3H

Which I think is only PCIe 1.0

I just bought GV-R455D3-512I

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2925

Which is PCIe 2.0.

Any problems ?

Nope... They're each compatible with each others GPU's.

Both pci express 1.0 and 2.0 are fully forwards/backwards compatible. PCI Express 2.0 cards just run slower (depending on their speed) in a PCI Express 1.0 slot.

As far as I can acertain, The main difference between the two is additional bandwidth, so two cards in Crossfire or SLi can run at either 8x or 16x instead of 16x for one and 4x for the other, this depends on which chipset you have. Memory and power management is slightly more advanced. Apples to apples with a single card I think any difference will go un-noticed, enjoy your new hardware!

The Radeon 4550 can run in PCI-E 2.0 or 1.0 mode, but doesn't really benefit from the extra bandwidth in PCI-E 2.0 anyway so PCI-E 1.0 shouldn't affect performance.
