I've had an Asus Pundit lying around my room for a few months now, flogged the CPU and it's just lay idle. Got my hand on a nice cheap 2.4ghz HT P4 today though after mate got a few free from work.
Anyway, the onboard graphics of this thing are... Well, they're not good to say the least. It has a DVI port but it doesn't like putting out a widescreen resolution. (Despite having the option)

I'll play about for a while and try to find a fix but I'll probably end up "upgrading" in the near future anyway. Am just gonna hook this up to tv for easy media access.

Anyway, has anyone here got any experience with the 6200 PCI card? There's no AGP port here so PCI is my only option, not that it's a problem as the only games this thing will see will be extreme retro...
I was thinking of just trying to find a cheapo FX5200 or maybe a 9200 if I can find one. The 6200 has it's Purevideo malarky though and is no doubt a bit better than the other cards.
What you think? The answer will probably be "whatever's cheapest" but I thought I better see. Never really know when it comes to the entry level but you always want the best. :)

the 9200 isnt bad - if you manage not to get the SE.

i have a 9200SE - its dire.
the propper 9200 is reasonably capable however (based on the radeon 8500, the 9100 was a direct clone the 9200 is a cutdown rework)

my brother has an AGP FX5200 - it pays morrowind and UT2K4 and generals ok....
no idea about the 6200

Yeah, sort of what I was thinking really, I've used a PCI 5200 before and I wasn't that disheartened by what I saw.
If games were ever thrown on it would only be Red Alert 2 and possibly Worms... :D

I'll just scour the bay and see what's going.

I attempted to add a 9250 to my daughters Dell machine and it failed dismally. I ended up using a FX5200. Never did get to the bottom of why it didn't work. Dumped the 9250 into my mother-in-laws machine to replace the on board graphics.

Both will run Sims2 reasonably well at 1152x900. The FX5200 struggles a little with some of the recent games that she's tried - but they're nothing that anybody here would want the play! (e.g. lots of glitches and slowdowns in this  )

TFG

lol @ the PCI 8500GT! Seriously, there has to be some bandwidth issues with it still being on PCI?
Don't think it will fit in for my "cheap as possible" finish. :p
