PCI sata card

I've not seen anything to confirm whether that card supports bootable devices. I'd be looking for that in writing before making any investment.

If it does turn out to be bootable then there are a few things you'll need to do to get Windows installed on a SATA drive:

  • Replace the HDD entry in your BIOS boot priority list with SCSI Device (the SATA card)
  • Remove all the IDE drives to make sure Windows puts the boot files in the right place
  • Make sure you've got the SATA card drivers on a floppy
  • If the new disk is bigger than 132Gb make sure you use a copy of XP which already has SP2 slipstreamed into the install so that you can use the full capacity of the disk.
  • Press F6 when starting the Windows install
  • Press S when prompted and give the install the driver floppy
