I have just bought and installed a PCI card which allows me to add 4 more IDE devices to my system. I have a couple of old IDE hard drives I was hoping to use for backup after my recent upgrade.

the card installed ok an Vista 32 bit has installed the drivers ok.

However when I attach a CDROM and Hard drive to the card the computer won't boot. I think it says boot disk failure.

Is this a BIOS problem on the motherboard?

The board is:

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Manual is here.

the card is a Newlink PCI ATA133 RAID Controller Card W/Cable.

Cheers

My first guess would be that the system is trying to boot off the HDD on the card. Check the BIOS boot priority settings and make sure it's set to your usual HDD.

I disconnected my Toshiba CDRW and it works, I'll swop it all over tomorrow so the two CD roms run off the MB and the two IDE drives off the card and see if it's a faulty CDRW to blame.

Thanks for the reply tho.
