PCI vs PCI Express sound card

I strongly suggest you go for this card instead - its a much better sound card. The X-Fi audio is basically just a SB audigy running X-Fi software, not a proper X-Fi. Meanwhile the DS is a proper Xonar card.

As for PCIe vs PCI - for sound cards it really doesn't matter, the bandwidth used is small enough that PCI does not limit it. Also, with your board PCI may be preferable as you can put it a long way from your graphics card.

I second what Andi said. I didn't look at the cards in question, just the PCI v PCIe question. The Xtreme Audio isn't even an Audigy really, it uses the SB Live! chip, which was released prior to the Audigy. Quite frankly, the Xonar DG and DS cards make Creative's Xtreme Audio and Audigy SE cards, poor choices.

DS its a proper xonar plus asus do support the hardware with drivers and what not. the DG is cheaper but is for headphones than speckers.

OK, thanks for advice, I will do that. I didn't realise the Creative wasn't that good a card, just always gone Creative in the past, so didn't consider other brands. Good to know Asus is superior! :)
