PCI-X Raid Controller?

Alright thanks. Perhaps a stupid question but:

I've got 4 sata devices which are 2 identicle hard drives, another hard drive, and a dvdrw, could I set the 2 identicle hard drives up in raid and still have the 2 other devices connected to the pcie card without any problems?

Interesting question. 2 HDDs in RAID plus 1 as a single disk won't be an issue although the single disk might have to be configured as a single disk RAID0 array before it will be recognised, this in turn could wipe the disk. It's the sort of thing that in theory should be possible but having not done it myself I don't want to commit to saying it'll definitely work.

The DVDRW I have no idea about.

Could anyone else clarify this for me please? I don't want to buy the card then still have to use the onboard controllers.

I'm a wee bit confused about your plans here. Your board (I assume we're talking about the DS3 in your sig) has 6 SATA ports, 2 of which support RAID but your talking about adding 4 more ports but without having to use the onboard ports. Unless you're wanting to use 4 disks in RAID on the card then I'd suggest that the onboard controllers are sufficient for what you want to do.

I'm having SCP issues with my sound card and apparantly one of the causes is onboard sata controllers.
