Afternoon,
Looking to move to AM5/DDR5 world and wondering if getting pci 5.0 is a must
Pricing is still a little mad but wanted to see if its worth it
Currently have RX 6700 XT and was wondering if there are real gains by combining with 7600X on a B650M
Someone with similar setup or able to shed some light onto this?
Greatly appreciated

No real benefit for pcie 5 unless your planning pcie5 m2 drive and need the faster speed it provides.

As for going AM5 depends what your coming from if it's worth upgrading ,

What's you current spec ?

With a 6700 XT there will be no difference between PCI-E 4 and 5.

Techpowerup have a PCI-E scaling article with a 4090 and it loses very little with PCI-E 3.0, so I'm happy to project that a hypothetical high-end PCI-E 5.0 graphics card will only lose a few % at most in a PCI-E 4.0 board. On the other hand, if you plan to buy midrange or lower-end cards in the future, the difference can, in some circumstances, be more substantial because of their limited lanes (and both AMD and NVIDIA seem to be moving this way).

Currently on 11400F/H510M-e, does not seem like a massive upgrade but wanted to try the new ryzen with ddr5. Firecuda 520 nvme

What resolution do you play at? If the 11400F is power unlimited and you're playing at 1440p I wouldn't bother. If I was going to do the switch, I'd rather have either the 7700 non-X or the 7800X3D (related video).

Now PCIe 5 offers very little but down the line it will. GPU's could cut the lane count to 8x Gen 5 or 1x/2x gen 5 NVMe drives. I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. If your upgrade cycle is < 2 years, it probably won’t mater but if you plan to keep the build > 2 year, it might.

1080p and seems like it will not change anytime soon as casual gamer
I am looking at MSI PRO B650M-A which can be had for £125 now, seems like a good way to test the waters :D
