PCIe frequency

I've heard that the default is 100Mhz, but have read about people putting it up to 101, or 105. What does this actually do? run the card faster? put more volts through it? Im trying to push my GTC further, I'm having trouble getting above 653/1581/900. notice that the memory is at stock, as I can overclock it with out artifacts.

Any help would be much aprreciated. I've fitted the HR-03 Plus, and still cannot overclock it more than I could before. Should I consider volt modding? Or should I change the PCIe frequency?

I'm pretty sure the the PCI-e frequency doesn't really effect the card at all, people usually bump it up a bit to allow them to get a higher FSB.
