If I get a mini PCIe SATAIII controller card for my Asus Crosshair III motherboard and use in one of the three small PCIe slots, will this give me enough bandwidth to run the newer generation SSDS without any bottleneck. I remember reading somewhere that the max throughput was 500MB/s if connecting to the mini PCIe slots.

The theoretical throughput of a PCI-E 2.0 x1 slot is 500MB/s if that's what you mean.

A cheap PCI-E controller is most likely to be a bottleneck though.

They usually use a Marvell controller which isn't particularly good and in some instances doesn't work much faster than the native SATA 2 ports on the motherboard.
