Behind you... Naked!
Hopefully a simple question...

I got 3 Wireless PCMCIA Cards. They all stick out of the LapTop by roughly an inch...

Does a card exist that, once I plug it into a PCMCIA Slot, it is invisible?

My LapTop has no Wireless capability you see and the bloody wireless card get on my pip sticking out there.

Many thanks all.

Oh, just as another idea...

The LapTop I have is a Packard Bell Easynote E3242

They are apparently sold with , and without Wireless capability.

can the non capable one, get a bit for it, that makes it capable?

I am unsure because it has the hole, but no bits to plug anything into? - Might need internal mods?
Anyway, if that can be done, then can anyone tell me?

it needs to have a minipci slot to take a wifi card and then an antenna would be required to get a signal, they usually run up the back of the lcd but with out a socket its a no go

Yeah, I have had a look, there is a plastic bit covering what looks like the socket, and I am trying to move this bit away a little to get a better look, but alas, I cannot see properly without resorting to taking the back ( Well, the bottom ) out fully.

I am therefore resorting to accepting that this model is simply unable to go that path, and I will have to stick with PCMCIA

Still not seen a short PCMCIA Card... I am unsure they exist?

From this page I would guess that all the E series have minipci slots just some came with a wireless card, some didn't. I've seen a few non-wireless laptops with minipci slots that also have the antenna wire already in place.

You shouldn't need to disassemble the laptop to get to the minipci slot, usually just a single screw on a small panel.

Yes, I have been there, but if you dig deeper you will find this page :-

It says they are sold WITH and WITHOUT

# MSL 526267705111 = EasyNote E3265 without wireless lan
# MSL 526267707005 = EasyNote E3265 with wireless lan

Mine is obviously a WITHOUT model.

Bugger.

I do however see what you are saying, but I have indeed been and opened up the panel you mention and there does look to be a MiniPCI port, but its hidden by a plastic bit.

Now, even if this is a MiniPCI slot, and I rip out a Modem from another LapTop, I am going to have to strip the LapTop down anyway because as has already been mentioned, the Arial needs to go up and about the base and up the screen doesnt it?

Is it all going to be worth it?

Mine is a silver/Black jobbie too, and I have for a laugh, asked in another store, about the cost of the white & Black cases ( Mine has a crack you see ) and if a replacement case is cheap enough, I will of course be taking a proper look when its stripped down for that, but Im not going to strip a LapTop down "Just to see"... Even though its just soooo Tempting.

Thanks for the info.

I fitted a mini-pci wireless card into an Easynote week before last, can't remember the model off hand but it already had the antenna fitted so all I had to do was insert card, attach antenna and install drivers. Worked like a dream.

The antenna was a a black and grey wire enclosed in a clear plastic 'nipple' and taped to the motherboard with a bit of masking tape, this was in the mini-pci bay.

Thats because its the model that is supposed to take one.

I now have had the back off mine completely now ( Yes I know, curiosity Kills cats ) and there is no MiniPCI slot... What I thought I was looking at, has turned out to be a chip plain and simple, but as I said, there was a lump of plastic covering where I thought the port might be.

They don't make two completely different models, they just don't put a card in the one without wireless.

minipci is not a port its an internal socket like a memory slot, it will be underneath the laptop under a panel usually, sometimes under the keyboard

Ok, its a socket, but that does not change the fact that its not physically here Im afraid.

I want so much to accept that, but its clearly not the case. This Laptop is incapable of taking a Mini PCI Card at all as there is no such socket.

Whine etc etc

Of course.

I did say that last night, but I massively cut the post down ( I have a habit of waffling too much ) and I clearly omitted that.

Anyway, the camera was put on charge last night and so, I am about to go out to do a job and when I get back, I will get some pictures sorted out ok?

Difficult to see from the pictures to be honest :(

However, in the picture 'Looking towards the HD section a little' what is the black plastic (?) block that is visible on the left hand side between the sticker and under the metal plate?

Have you made any attempt to remove the metal plate at all?

Agreed, I will try to better them... I took a load more last night but they were pretty much just as bad, but mostly worse.

I will have another go later on.

Next to the Cap?
Its some wire-wound component of some sort.

No, I have not... I have had the back off the thign though, and that plate is stuck down with double sided tape, or more likely heatsink tape cos its a tiny bit cushion-y, and the tape is about 1mm thick.

Either way, whether the pictures are good or not, you can clearly see that there is no Mini PCI slot or socket anywhere to be seen from any angle.

Clearly showing that there is physically no way for me to add a Wireless adapter into it other than the PCMCIA port at the side.

BAH!

That is the bit I mean, looks like it could easily be the back edge of the mini-pci connector. What colour is the plastic on the ram slots?

Oh I see what you mean, but that black thing you are pointing to, is a thin plastic strip thats simply stopping the metal from touching the Motherboard.

The RAM slots are white.

What? As in, there may be the pins for the inclusion of a PCI slot perhaps?

No, I have not.

I will be doing however... I have earlier on received an EMail and the price of a new white & Black case for it looks great and so I thought stuff it and I am getting a bigger ( New, and hopefully faster ) HD too, so when that stuff comes in *** next few days ( I hope ) I will be stripping it down to its bare bits and see if there is anything there perhaps?
