PCN issued with incorrect registration - where do I stand

Hi guys,

Just after some advice on this. I received a PCN for exceeding the time limit in a parking bay. I accept that on this basis the PCN is correct and I am at fault.

However the PCN has been issued with the incorrect vehicle registration on it. It has the make and colour correct but the registration number of my car is wrong. Instead of **** PSH it's **** PRH!

Can I or Should I bother to challenge the PCN as its been issued incorrectly even though I was at fault.

I know they will probably have a photo so not sure if its worth challenging.

You dont own a vehicle with the registration on the ticket.

Is there a picture of your car displaying the correct registration?

Hi,

I do own the vehicle that was park incorrectly and the PCN was issued for, but on the PCN they have typed my registration wrong.

So can I challenge this with the council as technically the registration they issued the ticket for is not the same as mine. (1 letter different, so probably a typo) does this make the PCN void for my vehicle?

Appeal it and see, shouldn't do any harm.

Just read on the council website that if the appeal is with 14 days of the PCN and the appeal gets rejected they will allow me to pay at the discounted rate still.

will appeal and see what they say!

I've had this twice now, and due to the details being incorrect, they cancel the ticket on appeal.

I would just have ignored it. How will they ever be able to trace you?

If it's the wrong plate details though, could you not just ignore it completely? When they chase the plate owner they'll just hit a dead end.

i'm confused. is there a picture of your car parked illegal? if no then do nothing cos you could say you dont own a car with that number plate

Surely they do have the correct registration stored somewhere, they need to have figured out where to send the PCN to after all, which is done by checking the registration against the ownership database. See what they say I guess, but I doubt ignoring it would be a smart move.

I assume that this is a council issued ticket, and not a private parking invoice?

If the former, appeal it upon the basis that the registration shown on the PCN is incorrect.

If the latter, then I'd be tempted to ignore it. Although the general advice for PPCs is not ignore but appeal, but considering that the registration is wrong I'd probably ignore it.

Exactly. If it's stuck to the car, they will never get you, because the registration isn't held in your name.

Either leave it, if it was just stuck to the car, or call them and tell them you do not own a car with that registration, and someone else must have put it on your windscreen in error, lol.

Pay it up and then appeal it but they do take pictures of the cars now in Glasgow so it's likely that it will come back to haunt you.

You admit the fault - so pay up would be my advice.

I got a NIP for speeding and it had the incorrect registration details (like you, one digit wrong). Spoke to a friend who is a police officer and typos are perfectly permissible and in no way invalidates an NIP, for instance, the same must hold true for parking tickets I would think.
