PCs designed for cats

This thread is inspired by a post in another thread that mentioned a cat-induced malfunction. I know someone else who had to protect cables from feline sabotage by routing them where they can't be reached. My own PC was made without a power button on the front, so that a cat climbing up it won't "accidentally" turn it off. I also gave it a wide, flat top to serve as a warm place to sit and supervise.

How many of you have done things to your computers for the sake of cats or other species?

PCs back is facing window, have shutters on the inside so no room for the cats to get behind it (and open window is great ventilation!). Its also on a unit that it fits perfectly on, the front and back feet go right up to the edges so bit of overhang on the front but they cant hit the power button. Top is nice and wide and the AIO vents out the top so they love laying on it (cloth handles as well which they love to rest head on). Only issue I have is there is room for 1, and got 2 cats. Its prime location and they know it, the smarter of the pair will pester me for treats and act all loving, when the treats come out the other cat will jump down and run over, the smart one never wanted treats he wanted to get the other cat off! Occasional if one is sitting on it rather than laying there is room for the other one and it ends up being a battle royal to see who remains!

Not cats, and not the computer directly. But I did have to dog-proof my incoming phone line when our old dogs were pups, because one of them kept chomping on the external part of the wire.

Relevant here because it was first noticed because the internet access kept dropping out. It was around a side of the house we never really went, so took us bloody ages to work out what the issue was.

Touchy subject
Last week I had a firmware update
First time I have ever had a
Firmware update for a motherboard audio chip
In my life

Finished firmware update
Now I have no sound
And of course there's never been
An earlier firmware to attempt to flash back to

Could still use Bluetooth audio
And usb audio
But all 5 x 3.5mm port were dead

After 3 days of this
I decide to look behind the pc
And turns out as I was flashing the firmware
The little furry ####### had pulled out
The extension going to the 3.5mm Jack
So i had been trying all the 3.5mm ports
With a cable Not attached to the extension wire to the speakers

Cats love computers
Lay on it
On the keyboard or mouse mat
Somewhere i have a photo of
A previous cat who climbed into the pc
While I had the psu out
No idea how he got his fat butt
Through the psu hole

Ozzy, my big boy cat loves sitting then lying down on top of my Lian Li 011 Dynamic Evo RGB which of course blocks the exhaust of my 360 AIO making the fans ramp up more and more as the water gets warmer. One of my previous cats also liked to sit on the exhaust vents on top of whatever case I had at the time. I guess they enjoy the airflow.

I remember that! The little guy saw his chance and took it.

Lovely kitties btw.
I still struggle to picture in my head
how he got in there bless him

the second one is another rescue from
grandkids who don't realise how much effort is involved
with an indoor cat
compared to one you can open the door
and let out
over the years it's been tarantula, geckos, cats
and of course the usual suspects
hamsters and budgies
bloody kids/grandkids who would have them
would rather have the animals

I'd draw the line at tarantula's and budgies personally.

Have two ginger girls. Older one used to get in the case when I was doing any upgrade. Sadly she suffers from some genetic degenerative disease, started when she was only 7-8 months old, now she can’t climb/jump anymore but I “move” her there so she doesn’t miss out.
The younger one is relentless. Would slap cables, WiFi antenna… but loves to lay down partially on top of the keyboard.
She never enjoyed laying on top of the case, just some casual walking but loves to tap the screen when the mouse cursor moves or there’s any animated loading bar. Same for TV. So far no scratches but hey, that’s the price for providing her her best life.

@Mcnumpty2323 this thread is peak "your posting style making entertaining poems"

Cats love laptops even more than PCs in my experience, though tbf if its on a table and you're paying attention to it they love it.

My cats used to love laying on the top exhaust airflow. hearing the fans ramp up due to temp increase and seeing them slowly elongate as they warmed up is cute. When i purchased the tower 600, i have my titan 360 lcd aio and 5090 arcticstorm aio set as exhaust on the sides and top set for intake and this works like a dream now my cats can't hot box my pc and they sometimes hop on top but don't stay long.
However my new kitten has now found my pc and the cables coming out the top and down the back. By pure accident she jumped on to my pc while having the zoomies and fell off the back and used her claws to grapple onto the cables and now she knows they are there she goes back many times daily and jump on top and down the back like a rock climber.
I have now purchased some cables ties and some cables wrap things to give them cables a chance to survive the onslaught of kitten razor claws.

I'd draw the line at tarantula's and budgies personally.
there were times the budgies wouldn't shut up
that I felt like feeding them to
the tarantula
the spider lived until it was 20 years old
of course they had gotten a female
interesting fact (or not lol) males last about 5 years
female around 20 years

not a patch on the world record of approximately 43
for an Australian trapdoor though
and that wasn't in captivity either
