Pda with sat nav

can't see any mention of any satnav software following the link.

i used to use pda gps but changed to satnav on my c550 mobile phone as it was more practical solution for me.

i did try a combines phone/pda....the xdaII but sold it as it was embarassing having something so big as a phone

Ok thanks for the info.I want to go the PDA route (excuse the pun) so i can use it for other things than just satnav.

@Bill101 I agree,i will take a look on that site thanks.

The Asus A632 does not come with any sat-nav software. It's a fairly average spec PDA for that price though a built-in GPS does save space, wiring, etc...

Most PDAs with built-in GPS come with a rather poor sat-nav software (had Destinator 3 on my Acer n35, didn't like it and bought TomTom Navigator 3 and then upgraded to version 5). Apart from Garmin's range of PDA/GPS range which offer a good spec PDA with a good GPS software (but at a high price), I'd recommend going for a standalone PDA/GPS and getting the sat-nav software separate.

You'll have to justify the costs though. If you definitely want sat-nav and not the PDA, get a dedicated sat-nav such as TomTom Go 300, which is around £200.

Can you get pda's that have VGA out and USB support?

Or just proper usb support would be a start.

I'm looking at Sat Nav options, ideally I'd like car pc but then your limited for Sat Nav software. So a decent speed PDA that i could plug an ipod/ external HD into would be a nice compromise.

I think I am correct in saying that all current Windows Mobile PDAs support USB in that they can connect to a desktop PC to sync via USB, vut that they cannot function as a USB host, meaning you cannot plug other USB devices into them.

Damn.

I suppose there's no way of installing the pda version of windows on a laptop either.

I have heard of emulators, but they're suppose to be really buggy.

So I guess unless TomTom finally make a pc version, the car pc market doesn't really have a decent Sat Nav program?

I used to be happy using my C500 windows smartphone with TomTom.

Till it got soaked on Storm Force 10 at drayton mannor.

Tomtom is great software, got me to a really far out place in Wales once.

Do you have any suggestions? Cheaper the better but willing to compromise (Not sure on budget under £400 all in) if possible.

TomTom Navigator 5 with Bluetooth is around £195 at most places or save yourself £50 and get the wired version.

You then have a budget of £205-255 for the PDA. Quite a few PDAs to choose from though some of the popular HP / Dell ones do hit near the £300 margin.

I've had an acer n35 since it first came out more than hapy with it.. running both tomtom5 and destinator 3 on it

Most windows mapping (eg Autoroute) software will work with GPS devices.

Have a look at the Fujitsu Siemens N500. Built in GPS, no flipup aerial, Sirfstar III GPS chip and Navigon preloaded for around £280.

It also has Windows Mobile 5. My mate bought one and it's great so I bought one the next day but had a few problems with it so I took it back. His is still going strong though.

Or the T-mobile MDA. :)

That's a PDA and a phone. Yes it's big, but i don't care - it's fantastic and has Tom Tom, which works a treat. It's also got Wi-fi and bluetooth on it, so you're sorted :)
