I have a number of PDFs which have complex vector illustrations. I would like to convert them to a raster image to reduce file size.

Can I do this in Adobe Acrobat? I am using a Mac.

Thanks.

Should be able to save out as either jpeg or tiff. How large are the files (both physical dimensions and file size?)

Vector files shouldn't be that large as that's part of the point of vectors..mathematical curves rather than data about each and every pixel...

When you say complex, how complex? A rasterised photo will be a lot more information than a complex vector.

Also when you PDF vectors together they take up even less space.

Have you tried making the PDF without preserving illustrator editing?

I need them to remain as a PDF. A rasterised photograph will probably contain less information as they are very complex, not simply logos for example.

Is there a way to do this?

I really doubt this, unless your not bothered with really sacrificing quality. If it's any kind of CAD/line drawing it won't look great rasterised at a low res.

Anyway, not entirely clued up on acrobat, but if you have photoshop you can just import pdf's. It will ask you for a resolution when you open it, I wouldn't want to go under 200dpi really. You can then save as a pdf. If you have a lot to do, create an action and batch it.

Save an optimised PDF, can save silly amounts of file size sometimes, depending on the options ticked

Under advanced > PDF optimizer in acrobat pro, don't know if the basic can do it mind you.
