Hey,

I just thought I would share a piece of software which I have been using for about a month now since my last reinstall as a replacement for WinRAR or 7Zip.

It's called PeaZip and just works brilliantly, is very small, lightweight.

I have never been able to get 7Zip to work and didn't want to pay for WinRAR and this is just brilliant.

Just wanted to share it with you all.

you don't have to pay for winrar....

you download the latest version and after the trial period is over it still works, you just close the little box that appears wanting you to pay for it, just close it as you would a normal window, once you close the small box it works all the same as it did b4

How did you not get 7zip to work? It's always worked 100% fine for me..

Prefer it over Winrar, Winrar is too bloaty

but you do have to run it as admin to set file type associations. it doesn't prompt you like a proper UAC aware application should.

Yes.

Just checked the alpha changelog..

"- Now it's possible to associate 7-Zip with file types without Administrator rights."

So will be able to in the next main release

from sounds of it the guy has no computer user knowledge, i'm not taking the ****, just stating the obvious

Thanks for that. I do have "computer knowledge". I would prefer it if you didn't just shout out like that as unless a user posts they have no knowledge of a particular subject then others on the forum have no idea.

I did mean that I have tried it quickly in the past and for one reason or another I couldn't get it to work. Therefore, I have been put off trying it out since. I then decided to try PeaZip which has worked fine for my needs. I was merely sharing a program I found useful to other members.

I know all about that, I used WinRAR like that for over 3 years! ahahaha

i meant no insult neil

Didn't see that post earlier..

No need to post daft claims like that, Neil posts a lot here and knows what he's on about

PeaZip looks like a handy little app. I did notice that it has 7zip as one of its backends though, so if you can get PeaZip to work 7zip shouldn't present any issues. Maybe you just downloaded a buggy version (you said it was a while ago)? :)

Either way, PeaZip says it handles 149 formats which is way more than 7zip. So basically if you're not wanting to use WinRAR or WinZip then PeaZip seems like the logical choice. 7zip backend, extra format support, win.

I don't really consider WinRAR bloated though?! I use 7zip on most of our PCs but I need RAR creation so I stick with WinRAR. Does what it says on the tin. :D
