Thought I would post here as the thread in the Apple section is not really active (nor relevant to my query)

I got mine today, has anyone else got one and also a Nexus 4? I have a few problems, just want to see if it is just my Nexus or all Nexus phones.

My mate has one and he said it was working perfectly fine for him. If you post your problems I could ask him for you tomorrow, guessing only a small percent of people have this right now with a Nexus 4.

Cheers for the fast response, I imagine a very small number have this combo of devices so your mate's input would be much appreciated!

2 minor issues really, possibly app specific.

1) The default mail app only sends a "message received" to my phone as opposed to a gmail which sends the full e-mail and is scrollable. I have an exchange account in the default mail app, if that helps.

2) Playerpro can be controlled by the remote control on the phone to change tracks and pause/play but it does not show the current playing track. if I change Pebble to control Google Play Music it changes tracks and shows the current track etc.

if he has found anything really cool he uses it for let me know as well!! For now I just get SMS, gmail and phone call alerts on my watch and also use it to change music tracks

looks like a gimmick tbh, these were made in the past for normal phones by sony ericsson and they never really took off, they were a lot cheaper too iirc.

most of its functions are useless imo.

e.g. you receive a text and then read it on your watch, how do you then reply? by using your phone? then why not just do that in the first place?

you receive a phone call and accept the call, but wait is there a speaker and mic on the watch? no, so again you need to use your phone.

you get an email and read it and want to reply, can you do this on the watch?

etc, etc, etc.

in reality this thing is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Mine is due this week. I have read that you need to be rooted and have Augmented Smartwatch Pro installed to be able to read full emails from exchange.

I've got one, although with an S3 instead of a N4.

For the issue with the default email client, try the app on the market called "Pebble Notifier", it can be set up to send notifications (including details like the body of an email) from any application to the watch.

Yeah I got it working, then realised i get far too many exchange e-mails so just stuck to gmail, sms and calls for notifications :)

I'm baffled why a 3rd party has to write an app like the notifier to make up for deficiencies in the out of the box product, but tbh I find the pebble team quite slow (in everything!!!).

Having said that, I am loving the watch. Controlling my music while my phone is on my pocket on my daily commute is handy, and now I can pretty much leave my phone on silent 24/7 and rely on discrete alerts! Battery life seems to be exactly 7 days for me and my phone doesn't drain noticeably faster by having BT on all day.

Doesn't say that in the thread title ;) no harm in some friendly discussion. I think they're kinda useful but not sure I would use them myself, not really in a situation where I can't check my phone.

Great :)

I will use mine to control Doggcatcher. I listen to podcasts all the time so will be handy to control that app from my watch!

Mine has just arrived! Feels comfy on the wrist and actually I am happy at how responsive it is.

Quick question, how do you know when it is charged?

Interesting. What's it like with notifications on etc?

I know I said I don't think I'd use one but with customisable watch faces etc I think I would at least have some fun with one, even if it wasn't strictly necessary :o

Used it for a couple of hours and its been fantastic so far. It is actually really good to be able to see what the incoming email is and whether you need to bother with it. Also Whatsapp is cool as you can see what the message is and again whether you need to respond or its just a thanks etc.

One thing I am loving is the control over my podcasts on Doggcatcher. Skip/pause/play are all done from the watch and it also displays what you are listening to.

An example earlier: Left phone in my study while I was in the kitchen, heard the phone bleep and usually I would go to the other room, unlock my phone and check whatever the notification was. instead, my watch vibrated and displayed a junk email which was of no use. Result in my book! (I work from home so have a steady stream of emails coming in that I need to respond to quickly)

Will be awesome to see what they come up with over the next year or two.

No persistent icon, just appears when battery is low. You get used to it and as I am getting 7 days out of it atm, I don't mind too much.

The bigger question is how long would it take Pebble to start selling replacement charging cables and how much will they cost!!

I am sure Whatsapp did not show actual messages before, just an alert that you had a message, I may need to recheck.

Edit: I just see who the message is from, no text from whatsapp. using Nexus4.

Is the Nexus 4 rooted? It's a requirement to see the Whatsapp message body.

Ah, I didn't know that. It is not. Is root a requirement for Whatsapp on all Android devices or just Nexus 4?

Confused how SMS, E-mails etc can go from phone to Pebble but not whatsapp. Some sort of whatsapp message encryption or something?

All Android devices need to be rooted for whatsapp apparently. Must be to do with security.

Must say, now I can see the full message from Whatsapp I will miss it if its not there.
