This was mentioned in a thread somewhere, don't think it had its own though.

The E-Paper watch for iPhone and Android.

Pre-orders now available at $150 (£95). Check out the link below to pre-order and for information about the watch.

I really like the sound of it! Not sure if I can justify spending £100 on a watch though which I would mainly just use for music control. Like yes I could read a message on it, but I generally reply to messages as soon as I get them so I would be getting the phone out anyway...

What does everyone think about the Pebble?

Backed it a few weeks ago, $140 inc postage for choice of colour. I never wear a watch and always leave my iPhone around so it's perfect for me. Should also have some fun developing apps for it, be good to see what the community turns it into!

Yeah it will be interesting to see what happens with the apps. My phone is always within a foot of me though, on my pocket or on my desk!

Though like earlier my phone was on vibrate and I was in the other room, I didn't hear it. If I had this watch I would know about it ;)

I hope it doesn't drain much battery either though, my 4S is already terrible. Last week I had it go down to <30% by mid-afternoon on a few occasions; hopefully when I upgrade from 5.0.1 in a few weeks it will improve it a bit.
I'm sure when I pre-ordered this morning though (it was like 5:30!) it said it would be early next year for delivery :S?

Yeah I saw this the other week, it's broken all the records of the funding startup website hasn't it.

Runkeeper confirmed they are the first app partner - which is great. Should be brilliant to use.

I've backed $140 too so will be getting a choice of colours and it should drive in September. i'm looking forward to coupling it with run keeper app.

i hope it catches on!

So it's just another bluetooth watch. I got excited first time these appeared on android, novelty has long since worn off though. Only when one goes to market and delivers will I be parting anything for one.

Been many before?

I think my main purpose for the Pebble is to be able to change song, volume with ease. I listen to my iPhone for hours a day so.... but I can generally just take my phone out.

Anyone know when these are actually meant to be shipping then?

Yes there are quite a few out there, it's not even that company's first attempt at such a device, but it's their first for android and iphone.

That's a lot of moolah for a remote control for something that is already within arm's reach.

Don't get me wrong - if it delivers** I would very likely buy one, but I've been through the pre-launch excitement of such devices before (like sony ericsson's liveview) and they've ended up being quite disappointing once people could get their hands on them.

** But it will have some more compelling capabilities than those shown in the video. The SDK is promising, but as they so rightly say, it's the apps it will have or support that makes or breaks it. That and the battery life drain, 5-10% isn't bad but some of them have been much higher sapping the phone life by a third or worse. So again, I'll wait and see before plunking down the cash.

I think this is the first one that is e-ink and works with android and iPhone. the other bluetooth ones are colour LCD and touchscreen (android ones). This company did one called inPulse for BB and Android. It is colour OLED and battery life is less, as a result.

Also they recently changed the spec to be Bluetooth 4 which, apparently, will use less battery.

They aim to ship Kickstarter orders in Sep 2012. Retail pre-orders will ship in 2013.

I backed it for $130 including delivery (black one). Just bought it as it seems like a nice gadget watch and I like the ideo that is very readable due to being e-ink.

Android users can also receive Text Messages (SMS) on their Pebble. Unfortunately iPhone does not expose this data.

Think it looks great though and will likely be my next watch to be honest, always thought about getting the nano and adding the straps to it to have something a bit different

Thread disappoints! Thought it was going to be announcing a new series from the BBC, in the same vane as Springwatch or Autumnwatch! :p

Bump...

Pebble announcement due at CES today at 5pm (9am PST), in about 50 mins.

Realistically, without annoying all their backers who have been waiting patiently, all they could possibly be announcing is a shipping date for backers and maybe also a date for people to expect shipping who may order from their website.

The pebble to me looks like a great starting device but I want something with a much bigger screen.

Whilst I know this isnt possible in this age its strap and size are.

I mean the iPod nano wasn't much bigger than this too many years ago. If I am going to be pressing in buttons on the side of the device I would prefer them to be easier to press than the pebble's. You watch the videos and it seems a lot of effort.

The watch when its done properly will be the biggest thing since the smart phone.
