I went to an RSPB reserve on Friday. I struggled with 'only' 420mm shooting the little critters!

Here are a few:

Thanks guys. :)

Are these crops? They all seem quite soft and noisy.

Yes they are crops - you dont think its easy to get that close to a woodpecker do you???? Taken at ISO 400 with only some noise reduction.

Great set Joe. I take it this was with your Sigma 120-300 with a 1.4x teleconverter? Do you notice any performance loss with the teleconverter on compared to off?

There is some, but its very small and its certainly worth adding the converter if you need the length.

Good shots.

Number 1 is the best in my opinion, except you've chopped the bottom of his tailfeathers off! also like 8.

Number 5 is ok, but I think it'd work a lot better from a lower angle, number 6 is a better shot but the colour/highlights are a bit out. maybe p/p?

Which reserve was it?

Cheers.

I might have a play with number 6.

They were taken at The Lodge (Sandy). Only one hide, but it was reasonably good. :)
