with petrol prices going up again last week or so, am looking to start cycling into work :-)

have bought some new tyres, inner tubes and chain all fitted and good.

Some minor problems, the gear shifters don't always change gear especially when trying to get onto the larger sprockets at the back.

some pictures here of kit on the bike :-

basically pushing the lever to change gear has no resistance and other times it does, is this fixable?

TIA

Have checked the brakes already :)

hi guys, try and answer all questions now:-

lordrobs:-
car does 30mpg and as wife needs to drop me in at work so works out at 24miles a day, so just under a gallon. If i cycle it's about 5 miles (one way) and is mostly along a canal so would be quite a nice ride in. spent £50 so far.

thanks for the offer of a rear mech, i think the one thats on the bike is still functions well, offers no resistance to moving, so assume is all ok.

not had chance today to look at sorting, will hopefully find time tomorrow, have a week before i need to start cycling into work.

some years ago i use to cycle to work which was a daily run of 44 miles, i was much fitter in those days and they had showers at work that made it so much better for work colleagues :)

thanks for the replies and info
