Peer Guardian makes my computer hang at shutdown

PeerGuardian makes my computer hang for about 30 seconds at shutdown. Sometimes its for minites :eek:

I know its PeerGuardian because when its not running when I click shutdown it does it straight away.
Is it possible to make PeerGuardian stop doing this? I think its to do with timeout.

Uninstall it.

If you really must have a P2P block list then most P2P clients have one built-in nowadays. I know Azureus does.

Or have a shut down script, that ends the peerguardian exe before the shut down process

you can decrease the length of time windows waits for a program to shutdown before killing the application.

Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

You can change the following keys to make it shutdown faster;

HungAppTimeout=4000
WaitToKillAppTimeout=4000
WaitToKillServiceTimeout=4000

But the problem is, the application might actually be doing something in the time it takes to shutdown normally, and stopping it too soon might cause problems.

It's probably not a good idea to terminate it forcefully considering it has a kernel mode component that was written by script kiddies

It's just as likely to BSOD...

True, but aside from not using the program and shutting it down manually, I can't think of anything else to try

Its a known problem and the only solution people found on the PG forums was to setup a shutdown script to use every time. This issue has caused me to stop using it
