Hi,

Quick random question as I can't see a definitive answer on the site in question:

Are PEGI Ratings legally enforceable in the UK?

I know BBFC Ratings are but not every game gets rated in such a fashion

Ta :)

Ah good old wiki - why didn't I think of that :(

Also this sentence from that page confuses me:

However, it is not illegal for persons under the age to play the game, as it is a system of helping parents of children make informed decisions on buying the game. It is entirely the parent's choice whether to purchase a game for a minor

It appears to contradict the table further down the page....

No, i work in a games retailer and PEGI ratings dont affect our ability to sell the games.

Its more of a guide to parents, to make them aware of the content in the game. PEGI is the games industry's self regulation

(The table further down just shows you where PEGI is used. Not where it is law (which is nowhere))

the pegi is a guide on what the content will have ie violence, sex, etc. It is only a guide and as such is not legally enforceable. BFCC ratings are the same one's used on films with the same legl obligations on the part of the seller
