Pen Drive is Corrupted?

Today I was using an excel file on my PC and I did a few alterations. I clicked the floppy drive to save and i left it there, I left my PC. When I came back, it was still 'saving' and soon turned grey-ish, meaning the program crashed. I closed the program and went into the pendrive and it said the pen drive needs to be formatted to be read O.o

I don't want to format it as I have very important data there. I managed to get the document I edited by the auto-recover excel feature but not what is in the pen drive.

I didn't format it yet, is there a way I can access wit without losing data?

I can format then use recuvera to get data back, but I CAN loose data and loose their names (means re-naming 100+ excel files).

Any ideas please guys?

P.S. I need the pen drive ready till 3 Pm pls

Can you see the drive in My computer (ie does it have a drive letter?)

If it has a drive letter I take it you cant see files on it?

If above is true then run a chkdsk first. Open a command prompt (Has to be as an administrator in Win 7) and type CHKDSK X: /f

Substitute X for your drive letter.

Yes I can, but when I open it, it says I can't access files.

EDIT: yes, it says CHKDSK is not available for RAW files.

OK. You will need to run data recovery for the drive as the File System is RAW.

Best tools are File Scavenger and Active Undelete.

When you get the files back, make sure you implement a backup system of some sort.

I'm downloading File Scavanger and Active undelete as I post.

What should I use first? And is it easy/straightforward to use?

FileScavanger is my preferred choice.

Use the Long Search option.

So I only need one?

I got both

I'm doing Long Search on File Scavanger.

After that, do create a backup and format the drive?

What should I do?

Don't want to muck up more than I already did as they are important files

Ok, I got them but I lost ALL the names which I assume I can't get back -.-'

Now, I got all the stuff, just need to recover them and what them?

I just format? What is the best format?

And most of all, HOW CAN I PREVENT IT HAPPENING AGAIN

Oh for Christ's sake, you need a code. I'll use Active undelete (as I got files more than 64kb)

I recommend Recuva personally myself.

Recuva wont work on a formatted drive.

As for preventing it I seen flash drives every day that are corrupted. When using Excel or Word etc make sure you use the autosave feature and save to your hard drive. Use the pen drive as temp stroage from one machine/place to the other.
