2 weeks ago I tried to pay for some. dental work Via.contactless. it failed to go through so did again with chip and pin and it worked.

unfortunately the money was taken twice from by debit card.

1 transaction has completed the other is stuck at pending.

I thought it would auto refund if not completed within 7 days but this has not happened. if I leave it long enough will the hold be removed and the cash released or will it have to be manually done by the dentist?

google say it can take 28 days.

I think some places process in batches rather than real time.

contact your bank if you need the money fast

Contact your bank?
i tried that... well not a bank as such, as it isnt a bank card... but i did contact the company who issued it, they were friendly and replied quickly but ultimately said they couldnt help, i will go and see the dentist and see what they say but was just curious if anyone here had had a similar issue..

The dentist won't be able to do anything as it will just show up as a failed transaction on their system, they can't refund a failed transaction.

Your card issuer should have told you what the standard time to resolve is even if they refused to do anything about it, but they are the only people who can do anything at all.

Often first line support can't (won't) do anything but if you ask them to raise it as a complaint they have to issue you a complaint reference and then a) they are much more likely to do something and b) you could potentially then complain to the ombudsman who could enforce a compensation claim.

I've had £30-50 offers from banks just to drop complaints, which they word as "we can't give you a refund of the £10, but would you accept £30 as compensation for your time and trouble".

i will defintely keep an eye on this one.... it hink it is the 3rd or 4th one i have noticed this happen to over the last 18 months, and the othres i have written off and just assumed they eventually got refunded....... but this one being the best part of £100 on i am not gonna let go.

I really hope it does resolve itself as otherwise it means the others probably didnt either (and those were not insignificant amounts of money either (over £50). it may be time for me to stop using the card tbh or at least the contactless part of it, as it happens too often. only thing is it has good cashback as well as decent to use abroad.

It happened to me once at a supermarket self service. I paid, it started processing and said payment wasn't successful even though it pinged on my phone and showed on my account at that very time.... I, regrettably, had a member of staff come over to advise and they said it didnt go through and to pay again which i did.

Took about 2 weeks to release the funds back (so it was a genuine non-payment).

In hindsight, and next time, I will just pick up my shopping and leave the shop... Its only theft if you purposely try not to pay and my bank account showed the pending payment in my transaction history while I was stood there so, as far as I would be concerned, it took it.

I've had a double payment before and my bank said the merchant won't "claim" the second one and it should automatically drop off and credit my balance within 7 days, which is exactly what happened on day 7.
yeah that is what i was expecting... tho it was 10 days ago now and so far nowt. i guess i just need to wait and see.
