Pendulum - Guitar without strings?

A keytar is basically a keyboard with a strap. See the Roland AX-7.

This has strings. I can't figure out if they actually do something or if they are for aesthetics. If it's the latter... it's a bit lame really and keytar would look cooler.

I think towards the end he touches the strings and it gives that kind of whiny synthesiser noise which is in the really good last minute. Check it out again. :)

I think what he's doing is tapping.

Essentially you do hammer ons/pull offs which make the strings vibrate like normal plucking does.

This means midi pick-ups (assuming he's using one) can still pick up the signals, as they are reading the vibrations of the strings. These pickups allow you to control midi hardware (synths etc). Essentially these allow you to make your guitar sound like any instrument (like a keyboard can).

Tapping example:
(45s in)

Midi guitar example:

He's not tapping because there are no strings up the fret board. The strings look like they are only 5 inches long.

The buttons are for the frets (1 through to 22 or 24, whatever he has there)

But there are no buttons for an open fret. So... the strings are plucked for an open string.

It is connected via MIDI.

Hurrah.

So he taps the buttons for the frets and if he wants a open string he plucks the string. Makes sense as there is no way to trigger a open string otherwise.

It's called a ZTAR Z6SP. It's a midi guitar. You only have like 5 inches of string or you can get it without. Plus you don't have to use the strings if you dont want. You can just tap the notes on the fretboard. Look it up on google.

Gotta agree with the live opinions, last time i saw them it was a 14+ event, which lead to little kids moshing :/

The afterparty was at Digital though, brilliant sound system and 18+. Even better than the live gig :D
