Penknife

What do you all use these knives for? I don't think there's been a time in my life where I've thought 'Hmm, if only I had a penknife with me'.

Is transportation of a sword or lock knife a valid reason for having one with you in public?

As in your going round somebody's house to give it to them. Then yes i'd image so.

Stabbin' :p

On a more serious note, it obviously depends what activities you do. I shoot a lot and am generally outside most of the time so comes in useful for everything from cutting string and building hides to field dressing to unscrewing screws!!

I dunno how recent this information is, but:

The relevant line is this one:
knives where the blade folds into the handle, like a Swiss Army Knife, aren't illegal as long as the blade is shorter than three inches (7.62 cms)

AND you have a valid reason to carry one.

Tbh, the best place is here:

These people are knife makers, and the best advice on knives you are likely to get.

Whatever you do, do not use the tweezers on somebody.
I have just had to take the tweezers out of my first aid kit because it is classed as assault.

"Hmm, your honour, I was proceding along the footpath when the accused came at me with a pair of tweezers, how my eyes watered when he plucked at my nose hair before nicking my mobile phone....."

It's all very surreal compared to France where shotguns and huge knives are displayed in all sorts of unlikely places.

Usually, in the garden or at the allotment for pruning/cutting soft veg & plants. I take it on holiday with me too as it's a useful thing to have; bottle opener, corkscrew, scrwdrivers, etc. Comes with me when I ski as well, just in case it comes in handy, which it did a few years ago when my mate's board bindings came loose.

Plenty of perfectly legal and resonable reasons to carry a knife/multitool if you're a grown up!

Last time I went there were electric batons, blades, so many kinds of weapons just displayed in shop windows, was quite suprising after being in the UK.

I've got a Leatherman Titanium Charge.

Really great multi-tool and the blades lock into place on it also.
I would really like to carry it around in my bag, as it would be invaluable at work sometimes. I work in central London however, and between home and work, if I got stopped I don't think I'd have any valid reason for it to be there.
