I did the same, just use the freezer's pre-applied stuff.

A pea size is about 20 times too much, a half grain to a full grain of rice is right. And I don't bother spreading it, the pressure from the heatsink does that.

I might get someone professional to fit my conroe once it comes, so they can apply the paste and stuff :) As I said, i'm n00b :p
